DATA STORY: 96% of all confirmed Covid-19 cases in India have recovered now

India on Wednesday reported a net reduction of 6309 to bring its count of active coronavirus cases down to 262,272, the lowest since July 7 and 74.2 per cent lower than the September 18 peak of 1,017,754. With a continuous trend of daily reductions, India’s share of global active coronavirus cases is down at 1.18 per cent (one in 85). The country added 20,549 cases to take its total caseload to 10,244,852. And, with 286 new fatalities, its Covid-19 death toll reached 148,439, or 1.45 per cent of total confirmed infections.
 
The count of recovered coronavirus cases across India now stands at 9,834,141 – or 95.99 per cent of total caseload – with 26,572 new cured cases being reported on Wednesday.

 

• With a daily increase of 20,549 in total cases, India’s tally of coronavirus cases has risen 10,224,303 on Tuesday to 10,244,852 – an increase of 0.2%. Death toll has reached 148,439, with 286 fatalities in a day. Now the tenth-most-affected country by active cases, third by fatality, and second by total and recovered cases, India has added 145,786 cases in the past 7 days.
• India now accounts for 1.18% of all active cases globally (one in every 85 active cases), and 8.26% of all deaths (one in every 12 deaths).
• Backwards from here, the last 1 million cases for India have come in 35 days.
• The count of active cases across India has seen a net decline of 6,309, compared with 8,720 on Tuesday. Five states that have reported the highest net increase in active cases are Kerala (834), Jharkhand (22), Bihar (12), Ladakh (12), and Puducherry (6).
• With 26,572 new daily recoveries, India’s recovery rate has improved to 95.99%; the fatality rate remains unchanged at 1.45%.
• The Indian states and UTs with the worst case fatality rates at present are Punjab (3.21%), Maharashtra (2.56%), and Gujarat (2.15%). The rate in as many as 13 is higher than the national average.
• India’s new daily closed cases stand at 26,858 — 286 deaths and 26,572 recoveries. The share of deaths in total closed cases stands at 1.06%.
• India’s 5-day moving average of daily rate of addition to total cases stands at 0.2%.
• India’s doubling time for total cases stands at 345.2 days, and for deaths at 359.4 days.
• Overall, five states with the biggest 24-hour jump in total cases are Kerala (5887), Maharashtra (3018), West Bengal (1244), Chhattisgarh (1134), and Uttar Pradesh (1021).
• Among states with more than 25,000 cases, the five with worst recovery rates at present are Kerala (90.92%), Himachal Pradesh (92.23%), Uttarakhand (92.51%), Gujarat (94.12%), and Chhattisgarh (94.30%).
• India on Tuesday conducted 1,120,281 coronavirus tests, taking the total count of tests conducted so far in the country to 170,922,030. The test positivity rate recorded was 1.8%.
• Five states with the highest test positivity rate (TPR) – percentage of tested people turning out to be positive for Covid-19 infection (by cumulative data for tests and cases) – are Maharashtra (15.28%), Goa (12.87%), Chandigarh (10.98%), Nagaland (9.93%), and Kerala (9.62%).
• Five states with the highest TPR by daily numbers for tests and cases added – are Kerala (9.53%), Sikkim (6.93%), Goa (6.09%), Nagaland (5.94%), and Maharashtra (5.3%).
• Among states and UTs with more than 10 million population, five that have carried out the highest number of tests (per million population) are Delhi (428657), J&K (285454), Andhra Pradesh (224214), Kerala (221773), and Karnataka (210627).
• The five most affected states by total cases are Maharashtra (1925066), Karnataka (917571), Andhra Pradesh (881599), Tamil Nadu (816132), and Kerala (749450).
• Maharashtra, the most affected state overall, has reported 3,018 new cases to take its tally to 1925066. The state has added 32,359 cases in the past 10 days.
• Karnataka, the second-most-affected state, has reported 662 cases to take its tally to 917571.
• Andhra Pradesh, the third-most-affected state by total cases, added 326 cases to take its tally to 881599.
• Tamil Nadu has seen its tally going up by 957 to 816132.
• Kerala has added 5,887 cases to take its tally to 749450.
• Delhi has added 703 cases to take its tally to 624118.
• Uttar Pradesh has added 1021 cases to take its tally to 583941.
