DATA STORY: Delhi reports fewest Covid-19 cases in a day since May 27

With 19,557 new daily recoveries, India's recovery rate has improved to 96.19%; the fatality rate remains unchanged at 1.45%

India on Monday reported a net reduction of 3267 to bring its count of active coronavirus cases down to 243,953, the lowest since July 4 and 76.03 per cent lower than the September 18 peak of 1,017,754. With a continuous trend of daily reductions, India’s share of global active coronavirus cases is down at 1.05 per cent (one in 95). The country added 16,504 cases to take its total caseload to 10,340,469. And, with 214 new fatalities, its Covid-19 death toll reached 149,649, or 1.45 per cent of total confirmed infections.
 
The count of recovered coronavirus cases across India now stands at 9,946,867 – or 96.19 per cent of total caseload – with 19,557 new cured cases being reported on Monday.
 
  • With a daily increase of 16,504 in total cases, India’s tally of coronavirus cases has risen 10,323,965 on Sunday to 10,340,469 – an increase of 0.2%. Death toll has reached 149,649, with 214 fatalities in a day. Now the tenth-most-affected country by active cases, third by fatality, and second by total and recovered cases, India has added 132,598 cases in the past 7 days.
  • India now accounts for 1.05% of all active cases globally (one in every 95 active cases), and 8.09% of all deaths (one in every 12 deaths).
  • Backwards from here, the last 1 million cases for India have come in 38 days.
  • The count of active cases across India has seen a net decline of 3,267, compared with 2,963 on Sunday. Five states that have reported the highest net increase in active cases are Maharashtra (1183), Karnataka (59), Uttarakhand (12), Puducherry (12), and Manipur (4).
  • With 19,557 new daily recoveries, India’s recovery rate has improved to 96.19%; the fatality rate remains unchanged at 1.45%.
  • The Indian states and UTs with the worst case fatality rates at present are Punjab (3.21%), Maharashtra (2.56%), and Gujarat (2.18%). The rate in as many as 13 is higher than the national average.
  • India’s new daily closed cases stand at 19,771 — 214 deaths and 19,557 recoveries. The share of deaths in total closed cases stands at 1.08%.
  • India’s 5-day moving average of daily rate of addition to total cases stands at 0.2%.
  • India’s doubling time for total cases stands at 433.9 days, and for deaths at 484.4 days.
  • Overall, five states with the biggest 24-hour jump in total cases are Kerala (4600), Maharashtra (3282), West Bengal (896), Tamil Nadu (867), and Karnataka (810).
  • Among states with more than 25,000 cases, the five with worst recovery rates at present are Kerala (91.16%), Uttarakhand (93.57%), Gujarat (94.51%), Maharashtra (94.59%), and Punjab (94.78%).
  • India on Sunday conducted 735,978 coronavirus tests, taking the total count of tests conducted so far in the country to 175,635,761. The test positivity rate recorded was 2.2%.
  • Five states with the highest test positivity rate (TPR) – percentage of tested people turning out to be positive for Covid-19 infection (by cumulative data for tests and cases) – are Maharashtra (14.99%), Goa (12.71%), Chandigarh (10.83%), Nagaland (9.89%), and Kerala (9.62%).
  • Five states with the highest TPR by daily numbers for tests and cases added – are Kerala (9.73%), Sikkim (6.16%), Goa (4.92%), Maharashtra (4.82%), and Chhattisgarh (4.2%).
  • Among states and UTs with more than 10 million population, five that have carried out the highest number of tests (per million population) are Delhi (447992), J&K (296663), Kerala (229640), Andhra Pradesh (229271), and Karnataka (219339).
  • The five most affected states by total cases are Maharashtra (1942136), Karnataka (921938), Andhra Pradesh (883082), Tamil Nadu (820712), and Kerala (775852).
  • Maharashtra, the most affected state overall, has reported 3,282 new cases to take its tally to 1942136. The state has added 32,185 cases in the past 10 days.
  • Karnataka, the second-most-affected state, has reported 810 cases to take its tally to 921938.
  • Andhra Pradesh, the third-most-affected state by total cases, added 232 cases to take its tally to 883082.
  • Tamil Nadu has seen its tally going up by 867 to 820712.
  • Kerala has added 4600 cases to take its tally to 775852.
  • Delhi has added 424 cases, the fewest in a day since May 27, to take its tally to 626872.
  • Uttar Pradesh has added 737 cases to take its tally to 588171.
