DATA STORY: India adds 86,498 cases; death toll goes past 350,000-mark

India on Tuesday reported a net reduction of 97,907 in active coronavirus cases to take its count to 1,303,702. India’s share of global active coronavirus cases now stands at 10.26 per cent (one in 8). The country is second among the most affected countries by active cases. On Tuesday, it added 86,498 cases to take its total caseload to 28,996,473. And, with 2,123 new fatalities, its Covid-19 death toll reached 351,309, or 1.21 per cent of total confirmed infections.
 
With 3,364,476 more Covid-19 vaccine doses being administered on Monday, India’s total count of vaccine shots so far reached 236,198,726. The count of recovered coronavirus cases across India, meanwhile, reached 27,341,462 – or 94.29 per cent of total caseload – with 182,282 new cured cases being reported on Sunday.
 
  • With a daily increase of 86,498 in total cases, India’s tally of coronavirus cases has risen from 28,909,975 on Monday to 28,996,473– an increase of 0.3%. Death toll has reached 351,309, with 2,123 fatalities. Now the second-most-affected country by active cases, total cases and recovery, and third by death, India has added 821,429 cases in the past 7 days.
  • India now accounts for 10.26% of all active cases globally (one in every 9 active cases), and 9.31% of all deaths (one in every 11 deaths).
  • India has so far administered 236,198,726 vaccine doses. That is 814.57 per cent of its total caseload, and 16.96 per cent of its population.
  • Among Indian states, the top 5 in terms of number of vaccine shots administered are Maharashtra (29155085), Uttar Pradesh (25520485), Gujarat (22617920), Rajasthan (22597775), and West Bengal (20567604).
  • Among states with more than 10 million population, the top 5 in number of vaccine shots per one million population are Kerala (365708), Delhi (361688), Gujarat (354111), Uttarakhand (324575), and J&K (305669).
  • Backwards from here, the last 1 million cases for India have come in 9 days.
  • The count of active cases across India on Tuesday saw a net reduction of 97,907, compared with 76,190 on Monday. States and UTs hat have seen the biggest daily net increase in active cases are Mizoram (109), Tripura (97), and Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu (25)
  • With 182,282 new daily recoveries, India’s recovery rate stands at 94.29%, while fatality rate has remained unchanged at 1.21%.
  • The Indian states and UTs with the worst case fatality rates at present are Punjab (2.61%), Uttarakhand (2.01%), and Nagaland (1.87%). The rate in as many as 18 is higher than the national average.
  • India’s new daily closed cases stand at 184,405 — 2,123 deaths and 182,282 recoveries. The share of deaths in total closed cases stands at 1.15%.
  • India’s 5-day moving average of daily rate of addition to total cases stands at 0.4%.
  • India’s doubling time for total cases stands at 232 days, and for deaths at 114.4 days.
  • Overall, five states with the biggest 24-hour jump in total cases are Tamil Nadu (19448), Karnataka (11958), Maharashtra (10219), Kerala (9313), and Odisha (6118).
  • Among states with more than 100,000 cases, the five with worst recovery rates at present are Tamil Nadu (88.51%), Karnataka (90.00%), Andhra Pradesh (92.85%), Kerala (94.01%), and Maharashtra (95.25%).
  • India on Monday conducted 1,873,485coronavirus tests to take the total count of tests conducted so far in the country to 368,207,596. The test positivity rate recorded was 4.6%.
  • Five states with the highest test positivity rate (TPR) – percentage of tested people turning out to be positive for Covid-19 infection (by cumulative data for tests and cases – are Goa (18.78%), Maharashtra (15.89%), Dadra & Nagar Haveli-Daman & Diu (14.35%), Kerala (12.8%), and Sikkim (12.53%).
  • Five states with the highest TPR by daily numbers for tests and cases added – are Mizoram (42.49%), Meghalaya (23.92%), Goa (15.23%), Nagaland (14.3%), and Kerala (13.2%).
  • Among states and UTs with more than 10 million population, five that have carried out the highest number of tests (per million population) are Delhi (1059377), J&K (653219), Kerala (576428), Karnataka (454867), and Uttarakhand (442596).
  • The five most affected states by total cases are Maharashtra (5842000), Karnataka (2707481), Kerala (2642395), Tamil Nadu (2256681), Andhra Pradesh (1763211).
  • Maharashtra, the most affected state overall, has reported 10,219 new cases to take its tally to 5,842,000. The state has added 149,080 cases in the past 10 days.
  • Karnataka, the third-most-affected state, has reported 11958 cases to take its tally to 2,707,481.
  • Kerala, the second-most-affected state by total tally, has added 9313cases to take its tally to 2,642,395.
  • Tamil Nadu has added 19,448 cases to take its tally to 2,256,681.
  • Andhra Pradesh has seen its tally going up by 4,872 to 1,763,211.
  • Uttar Pradesh has added 694 cases to take its tally to 1,699,083.
  • Delhi has added 231 cases to take its tally to 1,429,475.
