India on Sunday reported a net increase of 129,811 in active coronavirus cases to take its count to 2,682,751. India’s share of global active coronavirus cases now stands at 14.22 per cent (one in 7). The country is second among the most affected countries by active cases. On Sunday, it added 349,691 cases, the highest in a day so far, to take its total caseload to 16,960,172. And, with 2,767 new fatalities, its Covid-19 death toll reached 192,311, or 1.13 per cent of total confirmed infections.
 
With 2,536,612 more Covid-19 vaccine doses being administered on Saturday, India’s total count of vaccine shots so far reached 140,916,417. The count of recovered coronavirus cases across India, meanwhile, reached 14,085,110 – or 83.05 per cent of total caseload – with 217,113 new cured cases being reported on Sunday.
 
  • With a daily increase of 349,691 in total cases, the highest ever, India’s tally of coronavirus cases has risen from 16,610,481 on Saturday to 16,960,172 – an increase of 2.1%. Death toll has reached 192,311, with 2,767 fatalities, the most in a day so far. Now the second-most-affected country by active cases, total cases and recovery, and fourth by death, India has added 2,172,063 cases in the past 7 days.
  • India now accounts for 14.22% of all active cases globally (one in every 7 active cases), and 6.09% of all deaths (one in every 17 deaths).

  • Among Indian states, the top 5 in terms of number of vaccine shots administered are Maharashtra (18974050), Rajasthan (16960876), Uttar Pradesh (16430914), Gujarat (15390454), and West Bengal (14062929).
  • Among states with more than 10 million population, the top 5 in number of vaccine shots per one million population are Kerala (262926), Gujarat (240956), Chhattisgarh (228707), Uttarakhand (215783), and Delhi (213580).

  • The count of active cases across India on Sunday saw a net increase of 129,811, compared with 124,324 on Saturday. States that have seen the biggest daily net increase in active cases are Karnataka (20172), Kerala (19593), Uttar Pradesh (14491), Rajasthan (10322), and Gujarat (7466).
  • With 217,113 new daily recoveries, India’s recovery rate stands at 83.05%, while fatality rate has come down marginally to 1.13%.
  • The Indian states and UTs with the worst case fatality rates at present are Punjab (2.52%), Sikkim (1.91%), and Himachal Pradesh (1.51%). The rate in as many as 15 is higher than the national average.
  • India’s new daily closed cases stand at 219,880 — 2,767 deaths and 217,113 recoveries. The share of deaths in total closed cases stands at 1.26%.
  • India’s 5-day moving average of daily rate of addition to total cases stands at 2.1%.
  • India’s doubling time for total cases stands at 33.3 days, and for deaths at 47.8 days.
  • Overall, five states with the biggest 24-hour jump in total cases are Maharashtra (67160), Uttar Pradesh (37944), Karnataka (29438), Kerala (26685), and Delhi (24103).
  • Among states with more than 25,000 cases, the five with worst recovery rates at present are Uttar Pradesh (71.55%), Rajasthan (73.70%), Jharkhand (75.76%), Uttarakhand (75.97%), and Gujarat (76.38%).
  • India on Saturday conducted 1,719,588 coronavirus tests to take the total count of tests conducted so far in the country to 277,918,810. The test positivity rate recorded was 20.3%.
  • Five states with the highest test positivity rate (TPR) – percentage of tested people turning out to be positive for Covid-19 infection (by cumulative data for tests and cases – are Maharashtra (16.61%), Goa (12.25%), Chandigarh (9.93%), Chhattisgarh (9.3%), and Kerala (9.19%).
  • Five states with the highest TPR by daily numbers for tests and cases added – are Goa (33.97%), Delhi (32.27%), Chhattisgarh (29.24%), West Bengal (25.94%), and Maharashtra (23.45%).
  • Among states and UTs with more than 10 million population, five that have carried out the highest number of tests (per million population) are Delhi (892845), J&K (514607), Kerala (419893), Karnataka (363311), and Telangana (314633).
  • The five most affected states by total cases are Maharashtra (4228836), Kerala (1377186), Karnataka (1304397), Tamil Nadu (1066329), and Uttar Pradesh (1051314).
  • Maharashtra, the most affected state overall, has reported 67,160 new cases to take its tally to 4228836. The state has added 650,676 cases in the past 10 days.
  • Kerala, the second-most-affected state by total tally, has added 26,685 cases to take its tally to 1377186.
  • Karnataka, the third-most-affected state, has reported 29,438 cases to take its tally to 1304397.
  • Tamil Nadu has added 14,842 cases to take its tally to 1066329.
  • Uttar Pradesh has added 37,944 cases to take its tally to 1051314.
  • Andhra Pradesh has seen its tally going up by 11,698 to 1020926.
  • Delhi has added 24,103 cases to take its tally to 1004782.
