India reported an increase of 4,848 in active coronavirus cases to take its count to 63,063. The country is twenty-eighth among the most affected countries globally by active cases. On June 17, it added 12,847 cases to take its total caseload to 43,270,577.  And, with 14 new fatalities, its Covid-19 death toll reached 524,817, or 1.21 per cent of total confirmed infections.

With 1,527,365 more Covid-19 vaccine doses being administered on June 16, India’s total count of vaccine shots so far reached 1,958,403,471. The count of recovered coronavirus cases across India, meanwhile, reached 42,682,697 — or 98.64 per cent of total caseload — with 7,985 new cured cases being reported on June 17.

  • The five states with most active cases are Maharashtra (20634), Kerala (19210), Karnataka (4371), Delhi (3948), and Haryana (2364).
  • The five states with highest fatalities are Maharashtra (147880), Kerala (69853), Karnataka (40110), Tamil Nadu (38026), and Delhi (26225).
