DATA STORY: India's active cases at 455,555; recovery rate falls to 93.65%

Reversing a fairly consistent trend of daily net reductions, India’s count of active coronavirus cases has been rising again for the past three days. With an addition of 3,211, the number reached 455,555, or 2.60 per cent (one in 38) of all active cases globally. Overall, the country added 43,082 cases to take its tally to 9,309,787.
 
National capital Delhi, which is witnessing a third wave of infections, reported an increase of 5,475 cases and 91 more deaths in the past 24 hours. Its tally now stands at 551,262, and death toll at 8,811.
 
With 39,379 new cured cases in a day, India’s recovered cases reached 8,718,517 (93.65 per cent of all confirmed cases so far), while its Covid-19 death toll reached 135,715 (1.46 per cent of all confirmed cases), including the 492 fatalities reported on Friday.

 

Now the seventh-most-affected country by active cases, third by fatalities, and second by total cases, India has added 305,422 cases in the past seven days. Here are the key takeaways from the coronavirus data released by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) on Friday (November 27, 2020):
 

• With a daily increase of 43,082 in total cases, India’s tally of coronavirus cases has risen from 9,266,705 on Wednesday to 9,309,787 – an increase of 0.5%. Death toll has reached 135,715, with 492 fatalities in a day. The seventh-most-affected country by active cases, third by fatality, and second by total cases, India has added 305,422 cases in the past 7 days.
• India now accounts for 2.60% of all active cases globally (one in every 38 active cases), and 9.41% of all deaths (one in every 11 deaths).
• Backwards from here, the last 1 million cases for India have come in 24 days.
• The count of active cases across India increased by 3211, compared with 7598 on Thursday. The states that have reported the biggest jump in active cases are Maharashtra (1526), Rajasthan (982), Uttar Pradesh (546), Madhya Pradesh (457), and Delhi (447).
• With 39379 new daily recoveries, India’s recovery rate has fallen marginally to 93.65%; the fatality rate remains unchanged at 1.46%.
• The Indian states and UTs with the worst case fatality rates at present are Punjab (3.16%), Maharashtra (2.60%), and Gujarat (2.09%). The rate in as many as 13 is higher than the national average.
• India’s new daily closed cases stand at 39871 — 492 deaths and 39379 recoveries. The share of deaths in total closed cases stands at 1.23%.
• India’s 5-day moving average of daily rate of addition to total cases stands at 0.5%.
• India’s doubling time for total cases stands at 149.4 days, and for deaths at 190.9 days.
• Overall, five states with the biggest 24-hour jump in total cases are Maharashtra (6406), Delhi (5475), Kerala (5378), West Bengal (3507), and Rajasthan (3180).
• Among states with more than 25,000 cases, the five with worst recovery rates at present are Himachal Pradesh (77.39%), Chhattisgarh (88.41%), Rajasthan (88.50%), Kerala (88.56%), and Haryana (89.81%).
• India on Thursday conducted 1,131,204 coronavirus tests, taking the total count of tests conducted so far in the country to 137,062,749. The test positivity rate recorded was 3.8%.
• Five states with the highest test positivity rate (TPR) – percentage of tested people turning out to be positive for Covid-19 infection (by cumulative data for tests and cases) – are Maharashtra (17.09%), Goa (13.92%), Chandigarh (12.41%), Nagaland (9.91%), and Kerala (9.61%).
• Five states with the highest TPR by daily numbers for tests and cases added – are Himachal Pradesh (14.37%), Ladakh (14.29%), Sikkim (10.46%), Rajasthan (10.13%), and Nagaland (10.04%).
• Among states and UTs with more than 10 million population, five that have carried out the highest number of tests (per million population) are Delhi (304820), J&K (220618), Andhra Pradesh (188723), Kerala (172951), and Karnataka (162475).
• The five most affected states by total cases are Maharashtra (1802365), Karnataka (879560), Andhra Pradesh (865705), Tamil Nadu (776174), and Kerala (583741).
• Maharashtra, the most affected state overall, has reported a net addition of 6,406 cases. The state has added 52,588 cases in the past 10 days.
• Karnataka, the second-most-affected state, has reported 1,505 cases to take its tally to 879,560.
• Andhra Pradesh, the third-most-affected state by total cases, added 1,031 cases to take its tally to 865,705.
• Kerala has added 5,378 cases to take its tally to 583,741.
• Tamil Nadu has seen its tally going up by 1,464 to 776,174.
• Uttar Pradesh has added 2,094 cases to take its tally to 535,449.
• Delhi has added 5,475 cases to take its tally to 551,262.
