India on Saturday reported a net reduction of 104,525 in active coronavirus cases to take its count to 2,923,400. India’s share of global active coronavirus cases now stands at 18.61 per cent (one in 5). The country is second among the most affected countries by active cases. On Saturday, it added 257,299 cases to take its total caseload to 26,289,290. And, with 4,194 new fatalities, its Covid-19 death toll reached 295,525, or 1.12 per cent of total confirmed infections.
 
With 1,458,895 more Covid-19 vaccine doses being administered on Friday, India’s total count of vaccine shots so far reached 193,372,819. The count of recovered coronavirus cases across India, meanwhile, reached 23,070,365 – or 87.76 per cent of total caseload – with 357,630 new cured cases being reported on Saturday.
 
  • With a daily increase of 257,299 in total cases, India’s tally of coronavirus cases has risen from 26,031,991 on Friday to 26,289,290 – an increase of 1.0%. Death toll has reached 295,525, with 4,194 fatalities. Now the second-most-affected country by active cases, total cases and recovery, and third by death, India has added 1,916,383 cases in the past 7 days.
  • India now accounts for 18.61% of all active cases globally (one in every 5 active cases), and 8.42% of all deaths (one in every 12 deaths).

  • The count of active cases across India on Saturday saw a net reduction of 104,525, compared with 101,953 on Friday. States that have seen the biggest daily net increase in active cases are Tamil Nadu (11239), Odisha (1615), Assam (998), West Bengal (671), and Tripura (530).
  • With 357,630 new daily recoveries, India’s recovery rate stands at 87.76%, while fatality rate remains unchanged at 1.12%.
  • The Indian states and UTs with the worst case fatality rates at present are Punjab (2.44%), Sikkim (1.82%), and Uttarakhand (1.76%). The rate in as many as 19 is higher than the national average.
  • India’s new daily closed cases stand at 361,824 — 4,194 deaths and 357,630 recoveries. The share of deaths in total closed cases stands at 1.16%.
  • India’s 5-day moving average of daily rate of addition to total cases stands at 1.0%.
  • India’s doubling time for total cases stands at 70.5 days, and for deaths at 48.5 days.
  • Overall, five states with the biggest 24-hour jump in total cases are Tamil Nadu (36184), Karnataka (32218), Kerala (29673), Maharashtra (29644), and Andhra Pradesh (20937).
  • Among states with more than 100,000 cases, the five with worst recovery rates at present are Karnataka (77.26%), Uttarakhand (77.57%), J&K (79.78%), Himachal Pradesh (80.52%), and Tamil Nadu (83.39%).
  • India on Friday conducted 2,066,285 coronavirus tests to take the total count of tests conducted so far in the country to 326,484,155. The test positivity rate recorded was 12.5%.
  • Five states with the highest test positivity rate (TPR) – percentage of tested people turning out to be positive for Covid-19 infection (by cumulative data for tests and cases – are Goa (18.39%), Maharashtra (17.04%), Dadra & Nagar Haveli-Daman & Diu (13.64%), Kerala (12.36%), and Chandigarh (12.09%).
  • Five states with the highest TPR by daily numbers for tests and cases added – are Sikkim (34.05%), Goa (32.1%), West Bengal (25.57%), Karnataka (24.22%), and Andhra Pradesh (22.7%).
  • Among states and UTs with more than 10 million population, five that have carried out the highest number of tests (per million population) are Delhi (993858), J&K (598254), Kerala (519757), Karnataka (421141), and Uttarakhand (394986).
  • The five most affected states by total cases are Maharashtra (5527092), Karnataka (2367742), Kerala (2293632), Tamil Nadu (1770988), and Uttar Pradesh (1659212).
  • Maharashtra, the most affected state overall, has reported 29,644 new cases to take its tally to 5527092. The state has added 347,163 cases in the past 10 days.
  • Karnataka, the third-most-affected state, has reported 32,218 cases to take its tally to 2367742.
  • Kerala, the second-most-affected state by total tally, has added 29,673 cases to take its tally to 2293632.
  • Tamil Nadu has added 36,184 cases to take its tally to 1770988.
  • Uttar Pradesh has added 7,682 cases to take its tally to 1659212.
  • Andhra Pradesh has seen its tally going up by 20,937 to 1542079.
  • Delhi has added 3,009 cases to take its tally to 1412959.
