DATA STORY: India's Covid recovery rate again goes past 90% after 45 days

India has so far administered 202,695,874 vaccine doses. That is 740.60 per cent of its total caseload, and 14.56 per cent of its population

India on Thursday reported a net reduction of 75,684 in active coronavirus cases to take its count to 2,419,907. India’s share of global active coronavirus cases now stands at 16.41 per cent (one in 5). The country is second among the most affected countries by active cases. On Thursday, it added 211,298 cases to take its total caseload to 27,369,093. And, with 3,847 new fatalities, its Covid-19 death toll reached 315,235, or 1.15 per cent of total confirmed infections.
 
With 1,885,805 more Covid-19 vaccine doses being administered on Wednesday, India’s total count of vaccine shots so far reached 202,695,874. The count of recovered coronavirus cases across India, meanwhile, reached 24,633,951 – or 90.01 per cent of total caseload – with 283,135 new cured cases being reported on Thursday.
 
  • With a daily increase of 211,298 in total cases, India’s tally of coronavirus cases has risen from 27,157,795 on Wednesday to 27,369,093 – an increase of 0.8%. Death toll has reached 315,235, with 3,847 fatalities. Now the second-most-affected country by active cases, total cases and recovery, and third by death, India has added 1,596,653 cases in the past 7 days.
  • India now accounts for 16.41% of all active cases globally (one in every 6 active cases), and 8.97% of all deaths (one in every 12 deaths).
  • India has so far administered 202,695,874 vaccine doses. That is 740.60 per cent of its total caseload, and 14.56 per cent of its population.
  • Among Indian states, the top 5 in terms of number of vaccine shots administered are Maharashtra (26096160), Uttar Pradesh (21727863), Rajasthan (21118163), Gujarat (20040801), and West Bengal (17678444).

  • The count of active cases across India on Thursday saw a net reduction of 75,684, compared with 91,191 on Wednesday. States that have seen the biggest daily net increase in active cases are Tamil Nadu (3572), Odisha (953), Maharashtra (695), Manipur (458), and Arunachal (181).
  • With 283,135 new daily recoveries, India’s recovery rate stands at 90.01%, while fatality rate remains unchanged at 1.15%.
  • The Indian states and UTs with the worst case fatality rates at present are Punjab (2.50%), Uttarakhand (1.90%), and Sikkim (1.73%). The rate in as many as 18 is higher than the national average.
  • India’s new daily closed cases stand at 286,982 — 3,847 deaths and 283,135 recoveries. The share of deaths in total closed cases stands at 1.34%.
  • India’s 5-day moving average of daily rate of addition to total cases stands at 0.8%.
  • India’s doubling time for total cases stands at 89.4 days, and for deaths at 56.5 days.
  • Overall, five states with the biggest 24-hour jump in total cases are Tamil Nadu (33764), Kerala (28798), Karnataka (26811), Maharashtra (24752), and Andhra Pradesh (18285).
  • Among states with more than 100,000 cases, the five with worst recovery rates at present are Karnataka (82.52%), Tamil Nadu (82.93%), J&K (82.93%), Uttarakhand (84.55%), and Assam (85.21%).
  • India on Wednesday conducted 2,157,857 coronavirus tests to take the total count of tests conducted so far in the country to 336,969,353. The test positivity rate recorded was 9.8%.
  • Five states with the highest test positivity rate (TPR) – percentage of tested people turning out to be positive for Covid-19 infection (by cumulative data for tests and cases – are Goa (18.82%), Maharashtra (16.71%), Dadra & Nagar Haveli-Daman & Diu (13.99%), Kerala (12.65%), and Sikkim (12.25%).
  • Five states with the highest TPR by daily numbers for tests and cases added – are Goa (32.22%), West Bengal (25.36%), Sikkim (24.69%), Manipur (20.79%), and Andhra Pradesh (20.07%).
  • Among states and UTs with more than 10 million population, five that have carried out the highest number of tests (per million population) are Delhi (1012201), J&K (614385), Kerala (536955), Karnataka (430138), and Uttarakhand (410875).
  • The five most affected states by total cases are Maharashtra (5650907), Karnataka (2499784), Kerala (2424388), Tamil Nadu (1945260), and Uttar Pradesh (1680684).
  • Maharashtra, the most affected state overall, has reported 24,752 new cases to take its tally to 5650907. The state has added 272,455 cases in the past 10 days.
  • Karnataka, the third-most-affected state, has reported 26,811 cases to take its tally to 2499784.
  • Kerala, the second-most-affected state by total tally, has added 28,798 cases to take its tally to 2424388.
  • Tamil Nadu has added 33,764 cases to take its tally to 1945260.
  • Uttar Pradesh has added 3,176 cases to take its tally to 1680684.
  • Andhra Pradesh has seen its tally going up by 18,285 to 1627390.
  • Delhi has added 1,491 cases to take its tally to 1421477.
