DATA STORY: India's fewest Covid deaths since May 23, lowest tally spike since June 11

The country's vaccination now at 3.60% of its total caseload; 0.0275% of population inoculated so far; Lakshadweep reports its first set of Covid cases

India on Tuesday reported a net reduction of 7,484 to take its count of active coronavirus cases to 200,528, the lowest since June 27 and 80.30 per cent lower than the September 18 peak of 1,017,754. India’s share of global active coronavirus cases has declined to 0.79 per cent (one in 126). The country is 13^th among the most affected countries by active cases. India added 10,064 cases, the least in a day since June 11, to take its total caseload to 10,581,837. And, with 137 new fatalities its Covid-19 death toll reached 152,556, or 1.44 per cent of total confirmed infections.

 
As many as 157,004 more people were vaccinated across India on Monday which took the total count of those inoculated to 381,305. Meanwhile, Lakshadweep reported its first set of coronavirus cases on Tuesday – 14 new active cases.
 
The count of recovered coronavirus cases across India now stands at 10,228,753 – or 96.66 per cent of total caseload – with 17,411 new cured cases being reported on Tuesday.
 

• With a daily increase of 10,064 in total cases, the fewest in a day since June 11, India’s tally of coronavirus cases has risen 10,571,773 on Monday to 10,581,837 – an increase of 0.1%. Death toll has reached 152,556, with 137 fatalities in a day. Now the thirteenth-most-affected country by active cases, third by fatality, and second by total and recovered cases, India has added 102,658 cases in the past 7 days.
• India now accounts for 0.79% of all active cases globally (one in every 127 active cases), and 7.44% of all deaths (one in every 13 deaths).
• India has so far vaccinated 381,305 people. That is 3.60 per cent of its total caseload, and 0.0275 per cent of its population.
• Backwards from here, the last 1 million cases for India have come in 46 days.
• The count of active cases across India has seen a net reduction of 7,484, compared with 814 on Monday. The only states that have reported an increase in active cases are Lakshadweep (14), A&N Islands (4), and Puducherry (2).
• With 17,411 new daily recoveries, India’s recovery rate has increased to 96.66%, and fatality rate remains unchanged at 1.44%.
• The Indian states and UTs with the worst case fatality rates at present are Punjab (3.23%), Maharashtra (2.53%), and Gujarat (2.15%). The rate in as many as 13 is higher than the national average.
• India’s new daily closed cases stand at 17,548 — 137 deaths and 17,411 recoveries. The share of deaths in total closed cases stands at 0.78%.
• India’s 5-day moving average of daily rate of addition to total cases stands at 0.1%.
• India’s doubling time for total cases stands at 728.5 days, and for deaths at 771.5 days.
• Overall, five states with the biggest 24-hour jump in total cases are Kerala (3346), Maharashtra (1924), Tamil Nadu (551), Gujarat (495), and Chhattisgarh (471).
• Among states with more than 25,000 cases, the five with worst recovery rates at present are Kerala (91.53%), Maharashtra (94.86%), Punjab (95.33%), Gujarat (95.88%), and Uttarakhand (96.05%).
• India on Monday conducted 709,791 coronavirus tests to take the total count of tests conducted so far in the country to 187,802,827. The test positivity rate recorded was 1.4%.
• Five states with the highest test positivity rate (TPR) – percentage of tested people turning out to be positive for Covid-19 infection (by cumulative data for tests and cases) – are Maharashtra (14.39%), Goa (12.23%), Chandigarh (10.21%), Nagaland (9.79%), and Kerala (9.51%).
• Five states with the highest TPR by daily numbers for tests and cases added – are Goa (4.88%), Maharashtra (4.87%), Kerala (3.92%), Chandigarh (2.39%), and Rajasthan (2.34%).
• Among states and UTs with more than 10 million population, five that have carried out the highest number of tests (per million population) are Delhi (500837), J&K (323776), Kerala (254922), Karnataka (243970), and Andhra Pradesh (241363).
• The five most affected states by total cases are Maharashtra (1992683), Karnataka (932432), Andhra Pradesh (886066), Kerala (851194), and Tamil Nadu (831323).
• Maharashtra, the most affected state overall, has reported 1,924 new cases to take its tally to 1992683. The state has added 30,708 cases in the past 10 days.
• Karnataka, the second-most-affected state, has reported 435 cases to take its tally to 932432.
• Andhra Pradesh, the third-most-affected state by total cases, added 81 cases to take its tally to 886066.
• Kerala has added 3346 cases to take its tally to 851194.
• Tamil Nadu has seen its tally going up by 551 to 831323.
• Delhi has added 161 cases to take its tally to 632590.
• Uttar Pradesh has added 376 cases to take its tally to 596904.
