In another indication that infections in India might have reached their peak, the country on Sunday reported another net decline in active cases, of 12,526, bringing its number of active cases down to 668,154 – the lowest since August 15 and nearly 35 per cent lower than the September 18 peak of 1,017,754. And, 62,077 more cured cases in a day took the country’s count of recovered patients to 7,078,123, or 90 per cent of all reported infections.
The third-most-affected country by active cases and fatality, and second by total cases, India has added 370,260 in the past seven days. Here are the key takeaways from the coronavirus data released by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) on Sunday (October 25, 2020):
- With a daily increase of 50,129 in total cases, India’s tally of coronavirus cases has risen from 7,814,682 on Saturday to 7,864,811 – an increase of 0.6%. Death toll has reached 118,534, with 578 fatalities in a day. The third-most-affected country by active cases and fatality, and second by total cases, India has added 370,260 cases in the past 7 days.
- India now accounts for 6.60% of all active cases globally (one in every 15 active cases), and 10.26% of all deaths (one in every 10 deaths).
- Backwards from here, the last 1 million cases for India have come in 17 days.
- The count of active cases across India has seen a net reduction of 12526, compared with 14829 on Saturday. The states that have reported the biggest jump in active cases are Kerala (1760), Delhi (466), West Bengal (336), Manipur (82), and Haryana (66).
- With 62077 new daily recoveries, India’s recovery rate has improved to 90%; the fatality rate remains unchanged at 1.51%.
- India’s new daily closed cases stand at 62,655 — 578 deaths and 62077 recoveries. The share of deaths in total closed cases stands at 0.92%.
- India’s 5-day moving average of daily rate of addition to total cases stands at 0.7%.
- India’s doubling time for total cases stands at 108.4 days, and for deaths at 141.8 days.
- Overall, five states with the biggest 24-hour jump in total cases are Kerala (8253), Maharashtra (6417), Karnataka (4471), West Bengal (4148), and Delhi (4116).
- Among states with more than 25,000 cases, the five with worst recovery rates at present are Kerala (74.40%), Chhattisgarh (85.28%), Puducherry (86.81%), West Bengal (87.49%), and Karnataka (87.77%).
- India on Saturday conducted 1,140,905 coronavirus tests, taking the total count of tests conducted so far in the country to 102,523,469. The test positivity rate recorded on Thursday was 4.39%.
- Five states with the highest test positivity rate (TPR) – percentage of tested people turning out to be positive for Covid-19 infection (by cumulative data for tests and cases) – are Maharashtra (19.17%), Goa (14.53%), Chandigarh (13.87%), Puducherry (11.78%), and Karnataka (10.97%).
- Five states with the highest TPR by daily numbers for tests and cases added – are Goa (15.09%), Nagaland (13.93%), Kerala (12.21%), Manipur (10.76%), and Maharashtra (9.32%).
- Among states and UTs with more than 10 million population, five that have carried out the highest number of tests (per million population) are Delhi (217792), J&K (163109), Andhra Pradesh (143677), Assam (131297), and Tamil Nadu (124669).
- The five most affected states by total cases are Maharashtra (1638961), Andhra Pradesh (804026), Karnataka (798378), Tamil Nadu (706136), and Uttar Pradesh (468238).
- Maharashtra, the most affected state overall, has reported a net addition of 6,417 cases. The state has added 84572 cases in the past 10 days.
- Andhra Pradesh, the second-most-affected state by total cases, has added 24,880 cases in the past seven days. On Sunday it added 3342 cases.
- Tamil Nadu has seen its tally going up by 2,886 to 706136.
- Karnataka has reported 4471 cases, to take its tally to 798378.
- Uttar Pradesh has added 2178 cases to take its tally to 468238.
- Delhi has added 4116 cases to take its tally to 352520.
