In another relief on the pandemic front for India, another daily net reduction of 7,862 has brought India’s count of active coronavirus cases down to 804,528, the lowest since September 1.
The second-most-affected country by active and total cases, and third by fatality, India has added 464,317 in the past seven days. Here are the key takeaways from the coronavirus data released by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) on Friday (October 16, 2020):
- With a daily increase of 63,371 in total cases, India’s tally of coronavirus cases has risen from 7,307,097 on Thursday to 7,370,468 – an increase of 0.9%. Death toll has reached 112,161, with 895 fatalities in a day. The second-most-affected country by total cases and active cases, and third by death toll, India has added 464,317 cases in the past 7 days.
- India now accounts for 9.44% of all active cases globally (one in every 10 active cases), and 10.17% of all deaths (one in every 10 deaths).
- Backwards from here, the last 1 million cases for India have come in 15 days.
- The count of active cases across India has seen a net reduction of 7862, compared with 14486 on Thursday. The states that have reported the biggest 24-hour jump in active cases are Delhi (702), Kerala (684), West Bengal (479), Chhattisgarh (378), Bihar (282).
- With 70338 new daily recoveries, India’s recovery rate has improved to 87.56%; the fatality rate remains unchanged at 1.52%.
- India’s new daily closed cases stand at 71,233 — 895 deaths and 70338 recoveries. The share of deaths in total closed cases stands at 1.26%.
- India’s 5-day moving average of daily rate of addition to total cases stands at 0.9%.
- India’s doubling time for total cases stands at 80.3 days, and for deaths at 86.5 days.
- Overall, five states with the biggest 24-hour jump in total cases are Maharashtra (10226), Karnataka (8477), Kerala (7789), Tamil Nadu (4410), and Andhra Pradesh (4038).
- Among states with more than 25,000 cases, the five with worst recovery rates at present are Kerala (69.90%), Chhattisgarh (80.74%), Karnataka (83.35%), Puducherry (84.24%), and Maharashtra (85.04).
- India on Thursday conducted 1,028,622 coronavirus tests, and had a test positivity rate of 6.2%.
- Five states with the highest test positivity rate (TPR) – percentage of tested people turning out to be positive for Covid-19 infection (by cumulative data for tests and cases) – are Maharashtra (19.77%), Chandigarh (14.62%), Goa (14.3%), Puducherry (12.73%), and Karnataka (11.7%).
- Five states with the highest TPR by daily numbers for tests and cases added – are Goa (20.99%), Sikkim (18.81%), Kerala (15.53%), Maharashtra (13.4%), and Chhattisgarh (11.4%).
- Among states and UTs with more than 10 million population, five that have carried out the highest number of tests (per million population) are Delhi (193155), J&K (146113), Andhra Pradesh (131097), Assam (123962), and Tamil Nadu (114602).
- The five most affected states by total cases are Maharashtra (1564615), Andhra Pradesh (771503), Karnataka (743848), Tamil Nadu (674802), and Uttar Pradesh (447383).
- Maharashtra, the most affected state overall, has reported a net addition of 10,226 cases. The state has added 110962 cases in the past 10 days.
- Andhra Pradesh, the second-most-affected state by total cases, has added 31,784 cases in the past seven days. On Friday it added 4038 cases.
- Tamil Nadu has seen its tally going up by 4,410, to 674802.
- Karnataka has reported 8477 cases, to take its tally to 743848.
- Uttar Pradesh has added 2672 cases to take its tally to 447383.
- Delhi has added 3483 cases to take its tally to 321031.
