DATA STORY: With 76,737 cured cases in a day, India's recovery rate improves to 84.34%

With 76,737 cured cases in 24 hours, India’s Covid-19 recoveries on Monday reached 5,586,703, or 84.34 per cent of all reported coronavirus infections in the country. While the count of active cases continued to slide, with a net reduction of 3,198 to stand at 934,427, a single-day fatality figure of 903 pushed India’s death toll to 102,685. Overall, 74,442 cases reported from across India took the country’s tally to 6,623,815.
 
The second-most-affected country by active and total cases, and third by fatality, India has added 549,113 in the past seven days. Here are the key takeaways from the coronavirus data released by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) on Monday (October 5, 2020):

 

• With a daily increase of 74,442 in total cases, India’s tally of coronavirus cases has risen from 6,549,373 on Sunday to 6,623,815 – an increase of 1.1%. Death toll has reached 102,685, with 903 fatalities in a day. The second-most-affected country by total cases and active cases, and third by death toll, India has added 549,113 cases in the past 7 days alone.
• India now accounts for 11.76% of all active cases globally (one in every 8 active cases), and 9.86% of all deaths (one in every 10).
• Backwards from here, the last 1 million cases for India have come in 13 days.
• The count of active cases across India has seen a net reduction of 3198, against 7371 on Sunday. The states that have reported the biggest 24-hour jump in active cases are Kerala (3679), Karnataka (2791), Uttarakhand (1013), West Bengal (309), and Bihar (198).
• With 76737 new daily recoveries, India’s recovery rate has improved to 84.34; the fatality rate remains unchanged at 1.55%.
• India’s new daily closed cases stand at 77,640 — 903 deaths and 76737 recoveries. The share of deaths in total closed cases stands at 1.16%.
• India’s 5-day moving average of daily rate of addition to total cases stands at 1.2%.
• India’s doubling time for total cases stands at 61.3 days, and for deaths at 78.5 days.
• The states and UTs that have seen their biggest respective single-day spike in total cases today are Karnataka (10145), and West Bengal (3357).
• Overall, five states with the biggest 24-hour jump in total cases are Maharashtra (12548), Karnataka (10145), Kerala (8553), Andhra Pradesh (6242), and Tamil Nadu (5489).
• Among states with more than 25,000 cases, the five with worst recovery rates at present are Kerala (62.84%), Chhattisgarh (76.00%), J&K (78.89%), Maharashtra (79.64%), and Karnataka (80.51%).
• India on Sunday conducted 989,860 coronavirus tests, and had a test positivity rate of 7.5%.
• Five states with the highest test positivity rate (TPR) – percentage of tested people turning out to be positive for Covid-19 infection (by cumulative data for tests and cases) – are Maharashtra (20.3%), Chandigarh (15.35%), Puducherry (14.09%), Goa (13.54%), and Karnataka (12.18%).
• Five states with the highest TPR by daily numbers for tests and cases added – are Goa (36.33%), Nagaland (27.27%), Uttarakhand (19.76%), Maharashtra (16.53%), and Chhattisgarh (15.27%).
• Among states and UTs with more than 10 million population, five that have carried out the highest number of tests (per million population) are Delhi (165630), J&K (129327), Andhra Pradesh (116700), Assam (106094), and Tamil Nadu (101724).
• The five most affected states by total cases are Maharashtra (1443409), Andhra Pradesh (719256), Karnataka (640661), Tamil Nadu (619996), and Uttar Pradesh (414466).
• Maharashtra, the most affected state overall, has reported a net addition of 12,548 cases. The state has added 160446 cases in the past 10 days.
• Andhra Pradesh, the second-most-affected state by total cases, has added 43,582 cases in the past seven days alone. On Monday it added 6242 cases.
• Tamil Nadu, which has seen its tally going up by 5,489, has added more than 5,000 cases on each of the past 75 days.
• Karnataka has reported 10145 cases, to take its tally to 640661.
• Delhi has added 2683 cases to take its tally to 290613.
