Expressing concern over the declining standards of education at all levels, Maharashtra Governor Chennamaneni Vidyasagar Rao on Monday said emerging India needed a world class education system which would produce leaders in every discipline.
“At a time when India is emerging as a first rate global power, we cannot continue with an education system that churns out ordinary graduates lacking skills,” he said.
The governor was speaking at the Diamond Jubilee celebrations of Chembur Education Society here.
He added school managements should invite scientists and researchers from institutions such as Tata Institute of Fundamental Research and Bhabha Atomic Research Centre to interact with students and expose them to new ideas and experiments.
He expressed confidence that India could provide teachers to the world provided the country empowered its teachers and strengthened the teachers’ training institutions.
