The Finance Ministry is unlikely to hold its annual Delhi Economics Conclave (DEC) this calendar year, as hosting the event would eat into the government’s preparations for the union Budget 2017-18 scheduled for February 1.
The DEC is one of the most high-profile seminars in New Delhi and is held in late November or early December every year. The next edition is likely to be held in July 2017, Business Standard has learnt.
Some of the biggest names in global finance, economics and policy speak at the event. Last year, it was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. It was attended by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, the then Reserve Bank Governor Raghuram Rajan, Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and chief ministers of Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Kerala.
Officials said since the Centre was at an advanced stage of Budget preparations and since the process will culminate a month early, the DEC is unlikely to be held now. A date in July is being considered, they said.
