The Delhi High Court on Wednesday refused to pass any interim relief on a petition seeking the removal of the cap on withdrawal limits for money deposited by the public in banks before the November 8 demonetisation notification, as the Supreme Court is currently seized of the issue.
The petition, filed by businessman Ashok Sharma, has stated that on account of the government's decision, normal banking transactions have ceased and people are unable to carry on their regular businesses, which in turn has affected their right to livelihood.
Previously, the government had capped the weekly withdrawal limit from banks at Rs 20,000, with a daily limit of Rs 10,000. Subsequently, the weekly limit was increased to Rs 24,000 and the daily limit scrapped.
A bench of Chief Justice G Rohini and Justice V K Rao has asked the petitioner to furnish a copy of the apex court order by the next date of hearing, November 25.
