Greaves Cotton, one of India's largest diesel auto engine manufacturers, shared inputs with the Delhi police, which led to raids on two shops in New Delhi selling spurious parts branded as 'Greaves' .
The police seized more than 3,144 spurious auto parts and counterfeit packaging materials, which included piston pins, piston rings, connecting rods, valve sets, bearings, to name a few.
The raid in Kashmere Gate revealed that both units were involved in large scale counterfeiting/ packaging operations. Substandard parts were packed in counterfeit 'Greaves' packaging and then distributed through secure channels to other cities.
"The subjects were caught red-handed with the infringing material during the simultaneous raid action conducted at both locations. The mastermind behind the operation has been arrested and put to remand for further investigations," stated a release from the company.
Sunil Pahilajani, MD & CEO, said: "By selling these fake spares on the Greaves brand name these individuals are putting our customers at risk. Use of these spurious parts can be life threatening and thus we are working with the police to ensure that the culprits don't go scot free."
