The initial candidate certificate verification would be held from August 14-23, while the crucial web option involving allotment of seats would be made soon after, said T Papi Reddy, chairman of Telangana State Council for Higher Education (TSCHE), today.
He said the state government would put all processes in place to complete the entire admission process by the end of this month and also begin the classes from September onwards.
The Supreme Court in its final order on August 11 had directed both the governments to complete the the admission process by August 31, while rejecting the petition of the Telangana government seeking time till October 31.
This means the state has only ten working days to finish the initial verification exercise. “In such circumstances, the allotted 23 helpline centres for the state would have to scrutinise around 20,000 candidate ranks every day, as against the general 5,000 candidates, which is being done in Andhra Pradesh now,” said L Venugopal Reddy, chairman of AP Council for Higher Education.
In the coming days, the Telangana government is also expected to announce the modalities of the financial assistance programme — FAST — for its students studying in the professional colleges.
With respect to enlisting colleges following the completion of certificate scrutiny, it would go by the recommendations of the Task Force appointed to examine the quality standards in the state colleges.
Sources in the Telangana government said the state of affairs in more than 200 colleges examined by the Task Force was alarming, and they would not list such below-par colleges in the admission exercise. Of the 400-odd engineering colleges in Telangana, only 40 per cent met requisite standards and quality norms.
Meanwhile, representatives of the Telangana Consortium of Private Engineering College Managements met state government officials seeking clearance of fee reimbursement dues worth Rs 1,300 crore by this month-end.
