The Economic Offenses Wing (EOW) of the Mumbai police on Friday interrogated B D Pawar, a director of National Spot Exchange Ltd (NSEL), which has seen a Rs 5,600-crore payment crisis. It has decided to summon Joseph Massey, another director of the exchange, on Monday.
The remaining directors would be questioned subsequently. Meanwhile, an EOW official said former NSEL chief executive Anjani Sinha and his subordinate Amit Mukherjee were shifted to Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh on Friday, in relation to a complaint filed against NSEL by a borrower in Saharanpur.
On Friday, the Mumbai police also questioned two major NSEL borrowers — the promoters of ARK Imports (dues of Rs 730 crore) and Yathuri Associates (dues of Rs 460 crore). The director of Juggernaut Project of the Aastha Group (dues of Rs 236 crore) was being questioned till late evening.
Police sources said Aastha Group's Aastha Minmet Private Ltd, Bangalore, was involved in hawala activities. An official said the entity had allegedly transferred Rs 8.27 crore to overseas Akshaj Ventures abroad.
