Government feels motor vehicle act exempts Chhattisgarh employees

Chhattisgarh Government had issued a circular contradicting the motor vehicle act to make helmet-wearing compulsory for the state government employees.

The relevance of a separate order for the state government employees had flared up a debate in the government offices as the motor vehicle act had made it mandatory for all those riding two-wheeler to put a helmet.

The state government employees were no exception under the act.

Additional Chief Secretary N K Aswal issued circular directing the head of the departments to direct the employees to wear helmet compulsorily while riding two-wheelers.

Earlier, the state government had made it compulsory for two wheeler riders and pillion riders to wear helmet.

The order said that the department would deploy an official for one week to check and encourage the employees to wear helmet while riding.

The officially had been powered to take action that the order however did not specify against the employees violating the norms.

The order said the points mentioned in the circular should be executed strictly and on priority.

The circular of the state government had opened a debate over the issuance of an order especially for the employees when it was common for all.
