Asserting that the nation will grow when all its states will develop, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said that the Centre is making sincere efforts to ensure the progress of the North-Eastern region.
While speaking at the inauguration of the 65th Plenary Session of the North East Council (NEC) in Shillong Prime Minister Modi said, "India will grow when all its regions grow together. I see no reason why the northeast can't be developed."
"Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland have been connected with rail link. Agartala and Tripura too have been connected through broad gauge line," he added.
Further emphasising on the strategic importance of the North eastern region Prime Minister Modi said, "Northeast is our gateway to Southeast Asia."
Modi also stressed on the relevance of of skill development to generate more employment in the region.
Meghalaya Governor V. Shanmuganathan and Chief Minister Dr. Mukul Sangma, Assam's new Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal were present at the function.
