The Gujarat BJP has decided to make chief minister Narendra Modi's presence virtually ubiquitous using a high-end three-dimensional (3D) technology during the assembly polls in the state.

This technology will be used for the first time by the BJP for election campaign. It will allow people in different cities to hear and view Modi in three dimension at the same time. BJP was hopeful that the technology would prove useful for mass education in the future.

The announcement comes one day before the Election Commission issues notification inviting nominations for the first phase of polls in Gujarat.

"The 3D technology for the election propaganda will be like a real meeting with the chief minister, simultaneously at more than one places," said senior BJP leader Arun Jaitley in Ahmedabad on Friday at a party function.

This technology would be launched on November 18, when Modi would be addressing the people in Ahmedabad, Surat, Rajkot and Vadodara at the same time.

BJP Vice-President Parshottam Rupala and Gujarat BJP President R C Faldu said that for the first time a political leader would be using this technology in an election campaign to reach out to the masses.

"People are aware of the traditional methods like video conferences or virtual technology, but 3D technology is quite different from that," said Rupala. A special type of stage would be erected and a 3-D image of the chief minister would be projected onto it using this technology in such a way that the people, without using special glasses to view 3-D images at more than one places at the same time. "They would feel as if Modi himself was speaking before them in person," he added.

Initially the 3D technology will be used for campaigning in four major cities of the state. Later, the same technology would be used in other assembly constituencies in a phased manner.

This announcement was made at a BJP-hosted function in Ahmedabad on Friday. Speaking during the function, Modi expressed confidence that his party would be voted back to power again. He invited all, in advance, to similar function that would be held at his official residence on December 25, the birthday of BJP stalwart Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

Gujarat is scheduled to go to the assembly polls on December 13 and 17. The Assembly poll results would be announced on December 20, along with those of Himachal Pradesh, which is also a BJP-ruled state.
