Guj Polls: Cong vice president joins BJP

In a setback to the Gujarat Congress, one of its vice presidents and senior functionary Girish Parmar on Wednesday joined the BJP. Besides, Parmar other Congress members also formally joined the saffron party at a function held in Ahmedabad.

The other Congress members who joined the BJP include Samuben Nadia, former municipal councillor, Vinod Parmar, Ahmedabad city secretary, Kamla Rathod, state secretary, Mahila Congress and Dinesh Chavda, Ahmedabad city secretary to name a few.

Parmar had tendered his resignation from the Congress a day after the party released its first list of 52 candidates for the assembly polls earlier this month.

He and other senior members were opposed to the allocation of tickets by the party and had opposed the moved by shouting slogans at the party headquarters.

In past Parmar has held important posts in the Congress and was also party spokesperson for a while.

Speaking on the occasion Parmar said that the Congress did not give ticket to dalit candidate from Danilimda seat in Ahmedabad which is injustice to the community.

Gets ticket from Danilimda

The Congress Vice President Girish Parmar who joined the BJP on Wednesday was given ticket from Danilimda seat in Ahmedabad by his new party. Parmar had left the Congress for not giving representation to dalits during ticket allocation. Danilimda is a reserved SC seat. His name appeared in the list of 89 candidates announced by the BJP in New Delhi on Wednesday late evening.

The list includes name of close aide of former minister of state for Home Amit Shah, who is accused in two fake police encounter cases. Shah, considered to be close to Chief Minister Narendra Modi will be contesting from Naranpura area of Ahmeabad. Senior minister in Modi cabinet, Anandi Patel will contest from Ghatlodiya, a strong hold of Patel community, in the city.
