Despite initial delay Gujarat has received over 78 per cent of rain for this season bringing down over all deficit to around 15 per cent. The second spell of monsoon brought rains to almost all parts of the state especially the Saurashtra and Kutch region. This has also helped fill up the reservoirs in Gujarat up to 75 per cent of the total capacity.
Monsoon was vigorous over the Gujarat with rainfall occurring at almost all places across the state, stated the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), Ahmedabad. However, the low pressure area over Saurashtra-Kutch region had become less marked since yesterday while the low pressure area over West Rajasthan has moved over Northwest Rajasthan, it added.
The IMD has forecast light to moderate rain or thundershowers at a few places in various districts of Gujarat and in union territories of Diu, Daman, Dadra Nagar Haveli over the next couple of days.
As per the data released by the State Emergency Operation Centre under the revenue department, Gujarat has received 78.32 per cent of the total rainfall till today morning. In month of June the state received mere 24.42 mm rain which increased to 321.1 mm in July and 176.4 mm in August.

According to IMD director Jayant Sarkar the rain deficit in the state has come down considerably. "The deficit in Saurashtra and Kutch region has come down to mere 4 per cent while that in north, south, east and central Gujarat has decreased to 25 per cent. Over all the deficit is around 15-17 per cent," Sarkar said.
