The Gujarat High Court on Friday granted bail to Patidar agitation spearhead Hardik Patel in a sedition case on the condition that he will stay outside the state for six months.
The 23-year-old, behind bars for well over 200 days, will however not come out soon since he faces other cases where he has not been given bail.
There are cases against him in Visnagar, Padadhari and other places, besides a sedition case registered in Ahmedabad. He got bail on Friday in the Surat sedition case.
In the last hearing, Hardik Patel gave an undertaking to the High Court that he was ready to be away from the state for six months if granted bail in two sedition cases filed in Surat and Ahmedabad.
These case were filed in connection with the violence during the quota agitation.
This was in response to fears expressed by the Gujarat government counsel that freeing Hardik Patel will put law and order in the state at risk.
