The Bombay High Court today agreed to separate a public interest litigation (PIL) filed by bollywood actress Juhi Chawla Mehta and others which was clubbed with two other similar cases filed against mobile tower radiation.
The court accepted the argument of counsel for Juhi Chawla Mehta and other group that their PIL in seeking regulations and norms in place to reduce radiation in order to minimise health hazards was separate from other writ petitions filed by NAGAR, a Mumbai-based NGO and another one filed by former Mumbai police officer Kiran Shantaram, which seek to stop installation of towers.
Today all three petitions were heard simultaneously as they were of similar nature. After the hearing, the court fixed the hearing of the case by Juhi's group on October 9, while the other two cases will be heard jointly on October 1.
The other two cases were filed challenging installation of 4G towers in open spaces arguing that high frequency emitting towers can lead to health hazards for population residing in nearby areas.
