On August 28 2013, the National Intelligence Agency nabbed one of its most wanted terrorists- Yasin Bhatkal- along the Indo-Nepal border in Bihar. Bhatkal along with four other operatives allegedly planned the 2013 twin blasts in Hyderabad that killed 19 and injured 130 others.

The attack was carried out using Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), kept on two bicycles that were stationed at a distance of 100 metres from each other in one of Hyderabad's busiest commercial areas.

The twin blasts in Dilsukhnagar area on February 21, 2013, killed 18 persons, including one unborn child in mother's womb.

Apart from the Hyderabad blasts, Bhatkal is said to have been involved in carrying out other bomb attacks in Bangalore, Delhi, Varanasi and Pune. The one in Bangalore was executed on the birth year of the banned Indian terror group- Indian Mujahideen- in 2010.

On the whole, the terror group is allegedly responsible for killing at least 75 people and injuring close to 300 people in multiple attacks across India.

An NIA court on Monday (December 19) sentenced to death five people associated with the blasts in Hyderabad's Dilsukhnagar district on February 21,  2013.

Among them were Yasin Bhatkal alias Mohammad Ahmed Siddibappa, Asadullah Akthar alias Haddi, Pakistani national Zia Ur Rehman, Mohammad Tahseen Akhtar alias Monu and Ajaz Shaikh.

The convicted have also been imposed with penalties ranging between Rs 5,000 to Rs, 10,000.

However, Yasin’s brother Riyaz Bhatkal who is also one of the prime accused in the case is still on the run and is said to have found a shelter in Pakistan.

According to the NIA, Riyaz had arranged for the IEDs and instructed two of his accomplices- Asadullah Akthar and Zia Ur Rehman- to receive the explosives at Mangalore. Riyaz was also responsible for allegedly making payments to the Akhtar and Rehman.

In 2013, Yasin had revealed that he had received receiving training in Pakistan for 50 days after which he went to Dubai for weapons training.
