IIT JEE JoSAA 2016: Mock seat allocation begins

The choice filling process of JoSAA counseling will end on June 29, 2016 at 12:00 p.m.

The Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA), set up by the Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD), is displaying mock seat allocation today, June 27, 2016, till 4 p.m. for JEE main aspirants and for Advanced exam. The allocation is based on the choices filled in by registered candidates as of June 26, 2016, 5:00 p.m. The details are available on www.josaa.nic.in for registered candidates. 

The JEE Main 2016 rank list was announced on June 23, 2016 on the official website. About 11.28 lakh students have appeared for the examination conducted in April 2016.

JoSAA manages and regulates the joint seat allocation for admissions to 92 institutes for the academic year 2016-17. This year it is conducting the counseling for admissions in total 34,871 seats in 22 IITs, ISM, 31 NITs, 20 IIITs and 18 Other-Government Funded Technical Institutes (Other-GFTIs). For the academic session, all IITs have 10,575 seats to offer while there are 18,013 seats in NITs.

Registration and choice filling
 

All the candidates who have appeared in JEE (Main) 2016 are eligible to register for seat allocation in NIT+ system (except IITs & ISM). 

How to register and choice fill:
 

1. Log on to the official website 

2. Click on the tab, 'Click here for Registration And Choice Filling'

3. Enter roll number and password

4. Fill-in the choices in decreasing order of preference 

5. Fill-in as many choices as possible

6. Remember to ‘lock’ the choices. If not, the last saved choices will be locked automatically when the time-window for filling-in of choices closes

Admission process 
 

JoSAA has set up total 54 reporting center (RC) to assist candidates, out which 16 are for IITs while other 38 centres for admission to NITs, IIITs and GFTIs. There will be common counselling for IISERs, IITs and NITs. 

Candidates will be required to generate print out of their rank cards, which would not be dispatched by CBSE. The downloaded rank card will be considered valid for participating in counselling and seat allocation process. 

Students are allowed to participate in the counselling process through ‘freeze’, ‘slide’ or ‘float’ options. These three options allow a candidate to either retain the allotted seat or to opt for a change in seat in any other institute or in the same institute where the seat has been allotted. Withdrawal option is not available in the last round of seat acceptance period. 

If in a subsequent round, a candidate's allotment from NIT+ system changes to an IIT/ ISM, the candidate must report once again at an IIT reporting centre, similarly if a candidate's allotment from IIT/ISM changes to an NIT+ system, the candidate must report once again at any NIT+ reporting centre, failure to do so will result in forfeiture of seats allocated in both NIT+ system and IIT/ISM.

Students can withdraw their option by reporting at a reporting center (RC) before the fourth round of seat allocation.

To accept allotted seats, candidates must pay seat acceptance fee through e-challan or SBI net banking, and report at the respective reporting centre (RC) for document verification. The RCs would be opened from 10:00 a.m to 5:00 p.m.
