GMR Energy’s project village in Raipur district has become the first rural set up in Chhattisgarh to have its own website address.

The village where the company’s arm GMR Chhattisgarh Energy Limited (GCEL) has set up 1,370-Mw power station is now connected globally with its own website www.morraikheda.com. With a population of about 3500, Raikheda has now become the first village in Chhattisgarh to have its own website address.

“This is a unique initiative taken by our engineers to show our Raikheda village globally with the website address,” Chief Operating Officer (COO) and project head Ravi Shanker said.

The process started when a team of engineers drawn from company’s Control and Instrumentations department along with members of GMR Varalakshmi foundation visited the village and discussed various government schemes with the villagers. Surprisingly, the villagers were still depended on the proclamation system.

After demonetisation, the villagers were facing problems on the cashless transaction. Compiling all the details and database, the engineers decided to develop a website in the name of the village which would have information about all welfare schemes run by govt. of India, competitive exams and recruitments, agriculture, village events & activities, Sarpanch blogs, pictures and advertisements along with career planning etc.

However, for the online transaction system, the fear of change and insecurity, and lack of knowledge were the basic hurdles. This was solved with proper hands-on training imparted to the villagers, volunteers and high school students on computers as well as Android phones by Paytm, Bheem apps etc. About 200 villagers have got training on digital transaction system.
