IPS officer Safeer Karim was arrested on Monday for allegedly cheating while writing the Civil Services Examination (Mains) in Chennai.

His wife Joyce Joy was allegedly helping him with the answers over a bluetooth device during the examination. The lady was taken into custody from Hyderabad on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, The Times of India quoted one of Safeer's batchmates, an All India Service (AIS) officer, as saying that the IPS officer had scored exceptionally high marks in the Ethics, Integrity and Aptitude paper.
He had scored 108 out of 250 in General Studies-4 (Ethics, Integrity and Aptitude) paper.

Introduced by Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) in 2013, the Ethics paper tests the integrity and honesty of a candidate. Unfortunately, in this case, the paper failed severely to test Safeer's integrity.

A 2014-batch IPS officer, Safeer was on probation. He was serving as the Assistant Superintendent of Police in Nanguneri, Tirunelveli district.

He scored comparatively less in other three General Studies papers, an IRS official of 2014 batch told TOI.

Safeer had scored 772 out of 1,750 marks in written papers and 178 out of 275 in the interview. In total, he had secured 950 out of 2,025 marks.

Even the directors of the various IAS tuition centres condemn Safeer's shameful act.

"The government must initiate CBI probe into the issue to ensure that justice is delivered," KS Rao, director of KS Rao IAS Academy, told TOI
