Iron ore scam: Janardhana Reddy remanded till April 2

Judicial custody of four other associates also extended

The CBI Special Court today remanded to judicial custody till April 2 former minister and mining baron G Janardhana Reddy and his close associate Mehfuz Ali Khan in connection with an alleged iron ore scam.

Allowing the application filed under section 167 CrPC by CBI Special Public Prosecutor, seeking their judicial custody, CBI Special Court judge Shreeshananda remanded the duo who were in CBI custody to judicial custody till April 2 in the Parappana Agrahara prison here. The judicial custody of the other four associates of the duo which ended today was also extended till April 2.

All the six accused were produced before CBI Special Court judge Shreeshananda in Parappana Agrahara prison premises.

The other accused in the case are: former government officials S Muthaiah, S P Raju and two others, Swastik Nagaraj and Karapudi Mahesh. While Muthaiah and Raju are already in the prison in connection with Reddy’s mining firm Associated Mining Company, Nagaraj and Karapudi Mahesh were arrested earlier this month by CBI probing the alleged scam relating to export of iron ore from Belekeri port in Uttara Kannada district.
