On Tuesday evening, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa has directed a team, comprising a minister and executive officials, to attend the meeting related to Cauvery Water Dispute between the excutive heads of Tamil nadu and Karnataka, according to the directions of the Supreme Court on Tuesday. The meeting is likely to be scheduled on September 29.
A press release issued by the government on Tuesday, stated that Jayalalithaa convened a meeting in her room in Apollo Hospital, where she has been admitted for the past few days.
The Supreme Court has directed Karnataka to release 6,000 cusecs of water to Tamil Nadu for the next three days and ordered the Attorney General to facilitate a meeting between with the executive heads of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka with the Ministry of Water Resources recommending the ways to break the impasse in the issue.
"The Honourable Chief Minister discussed the issues to be taken up by Tamil Nadu at the meeting in detail ," stated the release.
Jayalalithaa has directed the Minister for Public Works, Highways and Minor Ports Department Edappadi K Palaniswami, Tamil Nadu Chief Secretary P Rama Mohana Rao, Public Works Department Principal Secretary S K Prabakar and Cauvery Technical Cell Chairman R Subramaniam to attend the meeting on behalf of Tamil Nadu.
Tuesday's Supreme Court directions comes on the backdrop of petitions filed by Tamil Nadu and Karnataka with respect to the apex court's previous orders related to the issue. The application filed by Tamil Nadu on September 26 said that Karnataka shall not be heard on Cauvery issue until and unless it complies with the Supreme Court's order to release the water to Tamil Nadu.
