Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa had long meetings here on Monday with her counterparts in Gujarat and Orissa, Narendra Modi and Naveen Patnaik, respectively.
All three CMs are staunchly against implementation of the proposed National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC).
Patnaik and Jayalalithaa met for about 25 minutes, one to one. It is believed the two discussed the upcoming meeting on the NCTC scheduled for May 5 and were trying to get all non-Congress Cms to oppose this project of the central government.
Patnaik refused to divulge any details of the meeting, saying he’d come to meet to meet an old friend of his late father, Biju Patnaik. the deputy CM of Punjab, Sukhbir Badal, was also supposed to meet Jayalalitha but finally did not.
Modi and Jayalalithaa, who share cordial ties, met for about 40 minutes. This is the second meeting of the two in the past four months. Modi’s party and some people close to Jayalalithaa are believed to be trying to get her to join the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance.
