Despite reluctance of the Congress leaders at the centre, the state Congress leaders under the leadership of the state Congress chief and Raya Sabha MP Pradeep Kumar Balmachu and former Union minister and Lok Sabha member from Ranchi Subodh Kant Sahay met recently with the Congress leaders at the centre including defence minister A K Anthony in New Delhi and pressed for forming government in Jharkhand with Congress, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), Rastriya Janata Dal (RJD) and some independent legislatures.
A section of state Congress leaders could not suppress their restlessness over early formation of a government with JMM, pointing present tenure of the state assembly that ends in December 2014.
It may be mentioned that the central leadership in Delhi in several occasion turned down the proposal of some senior Congress leaders of the state in formation of a government with the support of the JMM.
Congress top leaders believe it would be a serious blunder if the Congress extends its support to Shibu Soren supremo led JMM in formation of a government.
The Congress top brass apprehended that if the proposal of the state Congress leaders was accepted, it would adversely affect the prospects of the Congress in coming state assembly and Lok Sabha elections as after achieving a new state bifurcating Bihar in November, 2000, the BJP and JMM had appeared in the limelight in Jharkhand's politics that had reflected in 20009 Lok Sabha elections, where the Congress narrowly managed its face saving by securing only one Lok Sabha seat from the state capital Ranchi by its candidate, former Union minister Subodh Kant Sahay.
During undivided Bihar in 1984, Congress had won all the 14 Lok Sabha seats from the Jharkhand region while after constitution of the new Jharkhand state, it could retain only six Lok Sabha seats in 2004.
Meanwhile, a section old-timer leaders of the state Congress were of the opinion that if the Congress high command allows the state Congress to form government with the JMM with the help of tainted MLA's, it could cost the Congress dear during next Lok Sabha and assembly elections in Jharkhand.
