Lending a helping hand to people stranded in flood-hit Uttarakhand, Jindal Steel and Power has air lifted 650 such persons in last three days and deployed two helicopters and one regional jet to assist in the rescue operations, the company said today.
In a statement, the Naveen Jindal-led company also said it will press into service a third helicopter soon for relief operations.
Jindal Steel and Power's (JSPL) jet ERJ 135, which has a seating capacity of 37, is being used to ferry victims not fit enough to undertake a road journey to Delhi from Dehradun.
The two helicopters of the company are in Joshimath and Sahastradhara near Dehradun to help evacuate the stranded pilgrims.
"The company re-affirms its commitment in extending all its support to the aggrieved people and the government," a JSPL spokesperson said on the company joining the relief operations in the state.
Besides, the company and its employees also donated Rs 5 crore to the Prime Minister Relief Fund two days back.
Many other leading firms like Hindustan Construction Company, Airtel and NTPC have joined hands with the government agencies to provide assistance to victims in the flood-hit Uttarakhand, besides contributing to Prime Minister Relief Fund.

The flight also has an in-flight doctor providing critical medical aid to the pilgrims, it added.
