In a boost to the growth of IT sector in the state, Kerala government has identified developing two new IT investment destinations in Thrissur and Kozhikode districts.
As part of these plans, Kochi Infopark will come out with a special plan for the growth of IT Park at Koratty in Thrissur.
Apart from taking up related infrastructure development projects, Infopark has decided to focus on attracting major IT companies to the Park at Koratty.
While the existing 200,000 sft workspace at the campus is fully occupied, work on a new 330,000 sft IT block with plug-and-play facilities is in the final stages of construction. It is expected to be ready by May this year.
The new block is designed to serve the needs of both big players in the industry as well as the mid-segment companies looking to scale up their business. Under the new project, the Park will revamp amenities like swimming pool, gym, cafeteria and a women's hostel.
Currently, it is housing 29 companies with around 600 employees. The facility, set up under the hub-and-spoke model, boasts of a higher employee retention rate, when compared with similar parks in other metros in the country. It has received around a dozen advance bookings for office space at the new building. When fully completed, it would generate more than 3,000 employment opportunities, he added.
In Kozhikhode
Kozhikode is set to attract big IT investments with works on government-owned Cyberpark fast progressing and the construction of UL (Uralungal Labour Contract Co-operative Society) Cyberpark's IT building has been completed.
Several global companies including UST Global, IBS, Ernst and Young have already evinced interest in setting up their facilities at Cyberpark, the third major IT facility established being by the Kerala government under the hub-and-spoke infrastructure model.
The construction of the park's first building with 300,000 sft workspace is almost complete and will be ready by 2015-end. The building will have 100,00 sft of plug-and-play facility and 200,000 sft of warm shell space.
Once fully operational as per the master plan, the park is expected to create 25,000 jobs.
Cyberpark is the third hub, after Technopark in Thiruvananthapuram and Infopark in Kochi, under the hub-and-spoke model, which envisions massive IT complexes in Kerala's three largest cities, each administering several satellite centres, ensuring the IT infrastructure is effectively spread across the state.
The UL Cyberpark, promoted by Uralungal Labour Contract Cooperative Society, is ready with the first building, a green initiative certified by LEED.
The park is being developed as an IT/ITES Special Economic Zone in Kozhikode.
