A city court today rejected suspended Trinamool Congress MP Kunal Ghosh's plea for a one-day parole to enable him to be present in the Rajya Sabha on July 21. Metropolitan Magistrate 21st Court Judge Arvind Mishra rejected the plea, stating that under the provision of West Bengal Correctional Service Act, 1992 Section 62 (sub clause 5), the court has no authority to grant parole to a prisoner during his confinement in a correctional home.
It is the Inspector General Of Correctional Services who will grant the prisoner release on parole, the judge observed. The suspended TMC Rajya Sabha MP has been asked to be present at the Rajya Sabha on July 21. In the last week of June, a letter in this regard from Rajya Sabha was sent to the authorities of the Presidency Correctional Home where Ghosh is currently in custody.
