Pfizer Inc has signed a $5.29 billion deal with the US government to deliver 10 million courses of its COVID-19 oral antiviral drug starting this year, the drugmaker said on Thursday.

The oral drug could be a promising new weapon in the fight against the pandemic, as it can be taken as an early at-home treatment to help prevent COVID-19 hospitalizations and deaths.

IMD issues red alert for Chennai

Following a red alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Chennai, the various parts of the city received heavy rainfall on Thursday.
 
As per IMD, Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram and Ranipet are expected to receive extremely heavy rainfall due to the low pressure around the coast on Thursday.
 
The weather forecasting agency had earlier predicted that the coastal region of Tamil Nadu is likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall with extremely heavy falls in the southern coastal region of Andhra Pradesh-- Rayalaseema and adjoining areas of north Tamil Nadu during the next 24 hours.

The Supreme Court Thursday refused to direct the CBSE and the CISCE to provide option of hybrid mode, instead of the offline mode only, for the class 10 and 12 board examinations, saying it would not be appropriate to disturb the process at this stage.

The court noted that term one board exams of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) have already commenced from November 16 while semester one of board examination of the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) are to commence from November 22, PTI reported.

Vedanta Ltd said on Wednesday it is considering restructuring the mining behemoth by demerging and listing the aluminium, iron, and oil and gas businesses. Akasa Air, a fledgling airline backed by investor Rakesh Jhunjhunwala, said it had signed an agreement with CFM International to purchase LEAP-1B engines to power its Boeing 737 MAX airplanes. The deal is worth some $4.5 billion and it was announced a day after the ultra-low cost carrier said it would buy 72 Boeing 737 MAX planes from Boeing for nearly $9 billion.
