Vaccination for children: CDSCO approved ZyCoV-D for restricted use in emergency situations

The Interim Phase II, III clinical trial data of COVAXIN on Healthy Volunteers aged 2 to 18 years submitted by Bharat Biotech was deliberated in the meeting of the Subject Expert Committee (SEC) on August 28 and October 11, informed Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
 
The Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, Dr Bharati Pravin Pawar stated this in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha.
 
The committee recommended for grant of market authorization for the age group of 2 to 18 years for Restricted Use in Emergency Situation subject to various conditions. This recommendation is being examined and additional information has been requested at the level of the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO).
 
CDSCO has also approved the COVID-19 vaccine (ZyCoV-D) of M/s Cadila Healthcare for restricted use in an emergency situation in the age group 12 years and above.

Gujarat reports 40 COVID-19 cases

Gujarat on Tuesday reported 40 new coronavirus cases, taking the caseload in the state to 8,27,475, the health department said.
 
While no death was reported during the day, only three fatalities due to the pandemic were reported in the state in November. With 27 patients getting discharged on Tuesday, the number of recovered cases rose to 8,17,108.
 
The death toll of the pandemic remained unchanged at 10,092. There are 275 active cases in Gujarat including seven patients whose condition was said to be critical. As many as 5.38 lakh people were vaccinated against COVID-19 on Tuesday, raising the tally of doses administered so far to 8.10 crore. District-wise, Ahmedabad reported the highest 10 new COVID-19 cases, followed by Vadodara with eight, Jamnagar seven, Surat four, Navsari three, Bhavnagar and Kutch two each and Anand, Gandhinagar, Gir Somnath and Valsad one case each. There is one active case in the adjoining Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Daman and Diu, which has so far reported 10,655 cases, 10,650 recoveries and four deaths.

Night curfew extended in eight Gujarat cities till Dec 10 amid Omicron scare

In the wake of the emergence of the "Omicron" variant of coronavirus, the Gujarat government has extended the night curfew in eight cities of the state by 10 days till December 10, an official said on Tuesday.
 
The night curfew has been in force in eight cities from 1 am to 5 am since November 1. The curfew timings were reduced by two hours in November for Diwali and Chhath Puja and due to a drop in daily COVID-19 cases.
 
As per a government notification, the night curfew in Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Surat, Vadodara, Jamnagar, Bhavnagar, Gandhinagar and Junagadh cities has been extended for 10 more days, from December 1 to December 10.

Omicron threat: Kejriwal says 30000 oxygen beds, PSA plants ready, storage capacity ramped up

Amid concerns over the Omicron variant of coronavirus, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal Tuesday said his government is fully prepared to tackle any situation and has arranged 30,000 oxygen beds already and ramped up oxygen production and storage facilities.
 
The chief minister chaired a high-level meeting with the authorities concerned to review the city's readiness to fight the pandemic.
 
At the meeting, he shared the city's vaccination figures, saying 97 per cent of Delhiites have received their first dose, and 57 per cent are fully vaccinated.
 
"These are good numbers," he said, urging people to get their second dose soon. "Delhi is prepared to deal with any possible threat of another wave."

196 new Covid cases, two deaths in Telangana

Telangana on Tuesday reported 196 new COVID-19 cases, pushing the tally to 6,75,994, while the death toll rose to 3,992 with two more fatalities.
 
The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) accounted for the most number of cases with 78, followed by Medchal Malkajgiri (20) and Ranga Reddy (15) districts, a state government bulletin said, providing details as of 5.30 PM on Tuesday.
 
It said 184 people recovered from the infectious disease on Tuesday. The cumulative number of recoveries till date was 6,68,411.
 
The number of active cases was 3,591, the bulletin said.

India will achieve its fiscal deficit target of 6.8% of gross domestic output in 2021/22, its chief economic adviser said on Tuesday, amid concerns that the government may fall short of its privatisation target.

Latest live news: Twelve MPs suspended for "misbehaviour" in Rajya Sabha on August 11 will not be taken back, said Rajya Sabha Chairman Venkaiah Naidu said Tuesday, responding to demands from Opposition parties.
