Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Monday that climate adaptation has not got as much importance as mitigation in the international climate debate which is an injustice to vulnerable countries.

Speaking at a side event Action and Solidarity: The Critical Decade' at the 26th UN climate conference in Glasgow, Modi stressed on the need to include in the school syllabus the importance of living in harmony with nature as per traditional practices.

"Adaptation has not got as much importance as mitigation in the international climate debate. It is injustice to those countries which are highly vulnerable to climate change, he told the gathering.

SAIL Q2 net profit jumps over 10 fold

State-owned steel firm SAIL on Friday reported an over 10-fold jump in its consolidated net profit at Rs 4,338.75 crore for the second quarter ended September 2021. The company had posted Rs 436.52 crore net profit in the year-ago quarter, said the company in a regulatory filing.

India logs 3,74,397 accidental deaths in 2020

India recorded 3,74,397 accidental deaths in 2020 with road crashes constituting over 35 per cent of such fatalities, PTI reported quoting government data. The number was lower than 2019 when the figure stood at 4,21,104, the annual report of the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) showed. The rate of 'accidental deaths' per lakh population stood at 27.7 in 2020, down from 31.4 the previous year.

Bengaluru on alert, some offices and shops shut after Puneeth Rajkumar's death

Offices and shops in of Bengaluru shut down and police battalions were brought in to control swarming crowds of fans in anticipation of violence after actor Puneeth Rajkumar died in the city on Friday, said Reuters. Rajkumar, 46, a lead actor in films and part of an illustrious movie family died after a heart attack on Friday afternoon, doctors treating him told reporters. Television channels showed crowds of fans swarming toward the hospital where he was being treated, and police battalions were seen trying to control them.

IRCTC plunged as much as 30 per cent in its sharpest intraday fall since listing in 2019, wiping off as much as Rs 219 billion from its market valuation, after the Ministry of Railways asked it on Thursday to share 50 per cent of revenue earned from convenience fees from November 1.
