Colour stickers to be pasted by vehicle owners: Mumbai police

The red, green and yellow stickers that emergency and essential service vehicles need to sport as part of an initiative to curb traffic on Mumbai roads during the coronavirus-induced 'break the chain' restrictions will have to be prepared by vehicle owners and won't be provided by police, an official said on Sunday.
 
Under the initiative, vehicles belonging to doctors, medical staff, ambulances and those engaged in supplying medical equipment will have to sport red stickers, and those transporting food, vegetables, fruits, groceries, dairy products, etc, will use green stickers.

Aircel, RCom lenders may challenge NCLAT order on spectrum as they may lose Rs 60,000 crore

Lenders of debt-ridden telecom firms Aircel and Reliance Communications are planning to challenge the ruling of company law tribunal NCLAT over spectrum sale as they fear it will lead to NPAs of around Rs 60,000 crore claimed by them, according to a PTI report.
 
The National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT) in its order dated April 13 had ruled that the "spectrum cannot be utilized without payment of requisite dues which cannot be wiped off by triggering CIRP (Corporate Insolvency Resolution Process) under I&B (Insolvency and Bankruptcy) Code".
 
UV Asset Reconstruction Company (UVARCL) has emerged as a successful bidder for spectrum assets of Aircel and Reliance Communications. It has offered to pay Rs 150 crore upfront for the Aircel spectrum and another Rs 6,630 crore over the next five years to the financial creditors.

Passenger train derails in Egypt; some 100 injured

A passenger train derailed Sunday north of Cairo, injuring around 100 people, Egyptian authorities said. It was the latest of several rail accidents to hit the country in recent years, AP reported.
 
At least eight train wagons ran off the railway at the city of Banha in Qalyubia province, just north of Cairo, the provincial governor's office said in a statement. Videos on social media purportedly showed wagons overturned and passengers escaping to safety along the railway.
 
The train was travelling to Nile Delta city of Mansoura from the Egyptian capital, the statement said. The health ministry said least 97 people were injured. It was not immediately clear what caused the train to derail.

Family of Sikh killed at FedEx facility in US' Indianapolis terms shooting as 'racial killing'

The family of 68-year-old Jaswinder Singh, who was among the eight people killed in the mass shooting at a FedEx facility the US city of Indianapolis, termed the attack as "racial killing".
 
Speaking to ANI, Jaswinder Singh's elder son Jatindar Singh said it had been eight years since his father was living in the US.
 
"We received a call at 7 am that a white man killed my father along with seven other people, and later killed himself. This may be an incident of racial killing. My father was living in the US for the past eight years," said Jatindar Singh.

IPL 2021: Maxwell, ABD and spirited bowling hand RCB 38-run win over KKR

Glenn Maxwell and AB de Villiers' knocks of 78 and 76 were backed up a spirited bowling performance as Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) defeated Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by 38 runs on Sunday here at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.
 
Andre Russell played a knock of runs for KKR, but in the end, RCB managed to hold on to record their third victory in a row this season. This is the first time that RCB has managed to win their first three games in an IPL season.
 
Chasing 205, KKR got off to a flier as Shubman Gill scored 21 runs off just nine balls, but in trying to look for another big shot, Gill lost his wicket to Kyle Jamieson in the second over of the innings. Rahul Tripathi then joined Nitish Rana in the middle and the duo put on 34 runs for the second wicket, but in looking for a maximum, Tripathi (25) ended up losing his wicket to Shubman Gill in the sixth over, reducing KKR to 57/2.

The Election Commission on Sunday imposed a 24-hour campaign ban on BJP leader Sayantan Basu and Sujata Mondal of the Trinamool Congress for their controversial remarks during the ongoing assembly polls in West Bengal.
 
The bar on campaigning by the leaders will be in force from 7 PM on April 18 to 7 PM on April 19.
 
In an order, the poll panel said it had carefully considered Mondal's reply to it notice which does not justify the relevant portions of her statement "denigrating the Scheduled Caste community in West Bengal". READ MORE...

'Outside' BJP leaders campaigning responsible for Covid surge: Mamata

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Sunday said BJP leaders "from Delhi" who are bringing "outsiders" for campaigning, without COVID-19 tests, are responsible for the spike in coronavirus cases in the state.

60.37% polling in bypolls to three assembly seats in Rajasthan

The by-elections to the three assembly seats in Rajasthan have registered a turnout of 60.37 per cent, an official said on Sunday.
 
The three constituencies recorded a lower turnout of 13 per cent than the 2018 assembly elections.
 
As many as 4,49,885 people out of 7.45 lakh voters exercised their franchise on Saturday to decide the fate of 27 candidates in the three seats, a State Election Commission spokesperson said. A polling of 60.37 per cent was recorded in the three constituencies. The polling 56.60 per cent in Sahada (Bhilwara), 67.23 per cent in Rajsamand and 58.21 per cent in Sujangarh (Churu).

FPIs pull out Rs 4,615 crore from Indian markets in April so far

Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) have pulled out a net Rs 4,615 crore from Indian markets in April so far amid sharp escalation in Covid-19 cases and the consequent restrictions imposed by various states, unnerving overseas investors.
 
According to the depositories data, overseas investors pulled out Rs 4,643 crore from equities, but invested Rs 28 crore in the debt segment.

AirAsia India not to charge any fee for changes made on tickets booked till May 15

AirAsia India on Sunday announced it will not charge any fee for changing time and date on tickets booked till May 15. The carrier said in a press release that it has announced this offer to give passengers flexibility amid "increased uncertainty and travel restrictions".
 
"Guests can now make unlimited changes for all bookings and changes made till 15 May, 2021, irrespective of the travel dates, without incurring any flight change fees," the AirAsia India's release stated.
 
Many airlines, including IndiGo and SpiceJet, have announced similar measures allowing free rescheduling as state governments across the country impose several restrictions due to rising COVID-19 cases.

Voting for second phase of UP panchayat polls to be held on Monday

Voting for the second phase of the Uttar Pradesh panchayat polls will be held on Monday with more than 3.48 lakh candidates in the fray for over 2.23 lakh posts in 20 districts. Voting will be held from 7 am to 6 pm with over 3.23 crore voters eligible to exercise their franchise.
 
The second phase assumes significance as state capital Lucknow and Varanasi will go to polls in this round.
 
Apart from Lucknow and Varanasi, polling will be held in Amroha, Azamgarh, Etawah, Etah, Kannauj, Gonda, Gautam Buddh Nagar, Chitrakoot, Pratapgarh, Budaun, Baghpat, Bijnor, Muzaffarnagar, Mainpuri, Maharajganj, Lakhimpur Kheri, Lalitpur and Sultanpur districts.

Meanwhile, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi today cancelled all his public rallies in poll-bound West Bengal following a rapid rise in Covid-19 cases in the country. He also advised all other politicians to think about the consequences of holding large public rallies.

Earlier in the day, lenders to Future Retail approved a debt recast plan wherein the company can extend the repayment of loans for up to a period of two years. This follows the approval of debt recast plan by the K V Kamath committee, set up by the RBI to recommend parameters for one-time restructuring of corporate loans.

In another news, engineering entrance exam JEE-Mains scheduled to be held from April 27-30 has been postponed in view of the Covid-19 situation, Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal 'Nishank' announced on Sunday.
