FIFA slams unacceptable TV deal offers for Women's World Cup

Broadcasters were criticized by FIFA president Gianni Infantino on Saturday for what he called unacceptably low offers for rights to screen the Women's World Cup next year.

Offers of just 1% of the value of men's World Cup rights deals have been rejected, Infantino said, for the tournament that starts in July in Australia and New Zealand.

DU admission: 72,865 candidates accept allotted college, course in first merit list

Over 72,800 candidates out of 80,164 have accepted the college and course allotted to them in Delhi University's first round of allocations, Registrar Vikas Gupta said on Saturday.

Today was the last date for acceptance of allocated seats for undergraduate courses in the first merit list. It was extended by a day on Friday.

Ola ramping up e-scooter production, capacity: CEO Bhavish Aggarwal

Ola Electric is ramping up production of its e-scooters and is parallelly expanding capacity at its factory in Krishnagiri in Tamil Nadu to meet future demand, company Founder and CEO Bhavish Aggarwal said on Saturday.

The company, which launched its new S1 Air electric scooter at an introductory price of Rs 79,999, said it will also make a foray into electric motorcycles by next year.

Total expenditure for constructing housing societies by govt has crossed a figure of Rs 22,000 cr: PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday participated in the ‘Griha Pravesh’ of more than 450,000 beneficiaries of PMAY-G in Madhya Pradesh, via video conferencing and inaugurates houses built under PM Awas Yojana (Gramin), ANI report said.
 
Under the PMAY-G, in the last 8 years, more than 30.5 million poor families have got new houses. Our govt is committed to the poor and marginalised. Be it toilet, electricity, water or gas, we have included every facility to cater their needs in PM Awas Yojana, said PM Modi.
 
The total expenditure for the construction of housing societies by the government has crossed a figure of Rs 22,000 cr. We are dedicated to construct homes for all our countrymen, the PM added.

Low-pressure area over sea intensifies into depression, cyclone likely to be formed by Oct 24

A low-pressure area over the north Andaman sea that on Saturday intensified into a depression, around 1,460 km south-southeast of Sagar Island in West Bengal, is expected to take the shape of a cyclonic storm by October 24, the IMD said in its bulletin.

The weather system moved west-northwestward and concentrated into a depression on Saturday at 8.30am, close to west of Andaman Islands, the bulletin said.

Global IT, business revenues to weather looming recession: IDC

Despite a looming recession, the global IT and business services revenue is expected to grow 5.7 per cent this year and 5.2 per cent in 2023, according to an IDC report.

The growth outlook for Asia/Pacific was adjusted downward by roughly 10 basis points each year for the next four years.

The region is forecast to grow at around 5.5 per cent each year.

Within the region, the growth rates for both China and India have been lowered.

Huge cache of arms, ammunition seized in Assam's Karbi Anglong

Huge cache of arms and ammunition was recovered in Assam's Karbi Anglong district, police said on Saturday.

The arms and ammunition were buried inside the elephant camp of a forest near Diphu-Dhansiri Road, Superintendent of Police Sanjiv Saikia said.

Acting on a tip-off, the recovery was made. The seized items include two grenades, 69 live ammunition and a magazine of AK-47 rifle, 12 SLRs and two pistol magazines, he said.

Railway projects worth Rs 57,000 cr sanctioned for Rajasthan

Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Saturday said railway projects worth over Rs 57,000 crore have been sanctioned for Rajasthan.

Speaking to ANI, the Minister "New railway projects have been taken up for Rajasthan in the Railway sector. Projects worth over Rs 57,000 crore have been sanctioned. There was a record allocation of Rs 7,565 crore for this year. Work is in progress and is in fast pace. We will lay down 12 km of railway tracks per day."

He further said that 1 million youth will be appointed in different departments of the central government in the coming months through the recruitment drive.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch the 'Rozgar Mela', a recruitment drive for 1 million personnel, through video conferencing today. During the ceremony, appointment letters will be handed over to 75,000 newly inducted appointees, a statement from Prime Minister's Office (PMO) said.

Reliance Jio Chairman Akash Ambani will launch 5G services in Rajasthan from the famous Shrinathji temple in Nathdwara, Rajsamand, on Saturday, reported IANS. Akash Ambani will reach Udaipur on Saturday morning by a special plane, from where he will travel to Nathdwara to launch 5G services in the desert state. 

The world should remain clear that Pakistan must continue to take "credible, verifiable and irreversible" action against terrorism, India said on Friday after anti-money laundering watchdog FATF removed the neighbouring country from its 'grey list'. The Paris-based Financial Action Task Force (FATF) took off Pakistan from a list of countries under increased monitoring, also known as the 'grey list'. 

European Union leaders on Friday gave the green light to a plan to provide Ukraine with 18 billion euros in financial support over the next year, after President Volodymyr Zelenskyy warned that Russia is trying to spark a refugee exodus by destroying his country's energy infrastructure.
