The government is taking steps to produce "high value pharmaceuticals" in the country to reduce import dependency for such critical articles, Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said on Tuesday. Manufacturing of components of high-end medical devices in the country will be another big step in moving towards self reliance, the Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilisers noted.
"Working on the vision of reducing import dependency through indigenous production, the government is focussing on production of high value pharmaceuticals and high-end medical devices," he said, the PTI reported.

The Income Tax Department conducted simultaneous raids at 20 locations of Uflex Company in Noida and at its 64 premises across the country on Tuesday.
As per sources, information was received about tax evasion and unaccounted transactions by the company, following which a survey was conducted by the I-T department.
The accounts of the company, that deals with packaging, were being monitored for a long time.

Aviation regulator DGCA's chief Arun Kumar has said that incidents of unruly passenger behaviour onboard flights are under control and rules are now being strictly enforced unlike earlier, when the enforcement was not up to the desired level that led to some embarrassing incidents.
In an interview to PTI, he also asserted that existing rules to deal with unruly air passengers are "sufficient" at this point of time.
In recent times, there have been multiple cases of unruly air passenger behaviour, including incidents of a male passenger allegedly urinating on a female co-passenger and people found smoking in the lavatory of flights.

The Supreme Court has agreed to hear on Wednesday the Uddhav Thackeray faction's plea challenging the decision of the Election Commission recognising the Eknath Shinde-led faction as the real Shiv Sena and ordering allocation of the "bow and arrow" poll symbol to it.
Senior advocate Kapil Sibal, appearing for the Thackeray faction, mentioned the matter before a bench of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and Justices Krishna Murari and P S Narasimha on Tuesday.
If the EC order is not stayed then they will take over the symbol and the bank accounts. Please list it tomorrow before the Constitution bench, Sibal submitted.

BJP chief J.P. Nadda is all set to address a public rally in Belur town of Karnataka's Hassan district on Tuesday, the second day of his tour of the state.
Hassan district is considered the heartland of JD(S) as former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda hails from this place.
Despite Gowda family's hold over the electoral politics of the district, the BJP had managed to win the Hassan city MLA seat in the last Assembly elections.

The CBI on Tuesday launched searches at 30 locations in Punjab as part of its probe into allegations of corruption against Food Corporation of India (FCI) officials who procured inferior grains to benefit merchants and rice millers, officials said.
The CBI teams started coordinated raids at the premises of grain merchants, rice mill owners, and serving and retired officials of the FCI in multiple districts of Punjab, including Sirhind, Fatehpur Sahib and Monga, as part of 'Operation Kanak 2', they said.

The Appointment Committee of the Union Cabinet has approved the appointment of BVR Subrahmanyam, IAS (Retd.) as the new Chief Executive Officer of NITI Aayog, an official notification said.
Subrahmanyam will replace Parameswaran Iyer who is appointed as Executive Director, World Bank Headquarters, Washington DC, USA.
Subrahmanyam is a 1987-batch IAS officer of the Chhattisgarh cadre and hails from Andhra Pradesh. The officer was appointed as private secretary between 2004 and 2008 to then-Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia's claims that secretaries in the Public Works Department (PWD) being regularly transferred are "habitually false and misleading" and exhibit "utter lack of knowledge of procedures", a source in the Lieutenent-Governor's Secretariat said on Monday.
"The statement has been obviously issued by Mr Sisodia to divert the attention of the people from the utter failure of PWD under the AAP government which has resulted in the pathetic condition of roads in the city and non-completion of works on various projects and the absence of any new initiative," said the official source.

Chinese telecom equipment provider ZTE has reportedly started layoffs across departments, including wireless research institutes, terminals and other verticals.
According to a report in China Star Market, several employees were notified about their layoffs before the end of February.
"Some departments of the Wireless Research Institute are laying off 10-20 per cent of their staff. In addition, the terminal business department is also the focus of the layoffs," the report said, quoting a ZTE employee.

India logged 95 new coronavirus infections, while the active cases increased to 1,921, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Tuesday.
The death toll stands at 5,30,761, the data updated at 8 am stated.
The virus case tally was recorded at 4.46 crore (4,46,85,132) while the national COVID-19 recovery rate has been recorded at 98.81 per cent, the ministry said.

As many as 41 trains under the Lucknow Division of the Railways will remain cancelled till March 3, according to an official release.
Nearly 24 other trains will be diverted while some others would be rescheduled.
The decision has been taken due to the non-interlocking works underway on the Daliganj-Badshahnagar-Gomti Nagar-Malhaur route and also the yard remodelling work at Malhour under the North Eastern Railway (NER).

The Food Safety Department would undergo a performance audit district-wise in the state to evaluate its enforcement activities, the Kerala government has said.
As the number of people eating from outside is increasing, food safety cannot be compromised and therefore, the department should strengthen its enforcement activities, Health Minister Veena George said.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Tuesday was conducting raids across the nation at more than 70 locations belonging to gangsters Lawrence Bishnoi, Neeraj Bawana and their aides.
The raids were conducted in Delhi-NCR, Rajasthan, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Chandigarh and Uttar Pradesh.
The raids started early Tuesday morning and are currently going on.

The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Monday arrested the Joint Director of Delhi Jal Board Naresh Singh, after hours of questioning, on the allegations of siphoning off Rs 20 crores in an alleged water bill scam.
As per the allegations, Naresh Singh was receiving bribes worth lakhs of rupees from the bitevtors of Aurrum and Fresh Pay. He allegedly did not reconcile the bill payments with Aurrum and Fresh pay which he was duty-bound to do as Deputy Director, ACB said in a statement.

Three persons were detained for allegedly spreading rumours regarding presence of a bomb in Hazrat Nizamuddin - M.G.R.Chennai Central Garib Rath Express train late on Monday night, officials said.
As per the police, Hazrat Nizamuddin - M.G.R.Chennai Central Garib Rath Express (12612), was stopped at the Dholpur station in Rajasthan for three hours, after a passenger claimed that there was a bomb on the train.

Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia has approved the construction of two dams on Shah Alam Dam Road to stop sewage water from flowing into the Jahangirpuri drain, which ultimately falls into the Yamuna river through the Najafgarh drain.
The project, which will cost Rs 1.7 crore, aims to divert the sewerage coming out of the area's colonies for treatment at the nearest Sewage Pumping Station (SPS), according to a government release.
