SC serves Kerala notice on festival relaxation
The Supreme Court on Monday asked the Kerala government to file its response during the day on an application against the three-day relaxation in Covid-19 restrictions in the state for the upcoming Bakrid festival. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has announced that a range of shops will stay to July 18, 19 and 20 from 7am to 8pm. The festival is on July 21.

Monsoon session 2021 LIVE: Rain intensity reduces in Mumbai after heavy spell
A day after heavy downpour wreaked havoc in Mumbai and claimed 30 lives, the rain intensity reduced on Monday, bringing some relief to citizens of the metropolis, officials said. The local train and road transport services, which were badly affected due to the torrential rains and water-logging on Sunday, were now running normal, they said.
On Sunday, 19 people died in Mahul area of Chembur where a retaining wall collapsed on some houses after a landslide, 10 died as some shanties collapsed in suburban Vikhroli, while one person died in Bhandup area where a forest department wall collapsed. On Monday, no fresh death was reported, an official from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said.
The eastern suburbs of Mumbai recorded the highest 90.65 mm rainfall in the 24-hour period ending at 8 am on Monday, as compared to 48.88 mm rainfall in the island city and 51.89 mm rainfall in western suburbs, he said. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) earlier issued an "orange alert" for Mumbai on Monday, predicting "heavy to very heavy rain at few places".

Monsoon 2021: Three of family killed in cloudburst in Uttarakhand's Uttarkashi
Three members of a family, including a mother-daughter duo, were killed while one person was reportedly missing after a cloudburst hit two adjacent villages in Uttarakhand''s Uttarkashi district, officials said on Monday.
Those killed in the incident that took place on Sunday night in Mandav village were identified as Madhuri Devi (36), Ritu Devi (32) and her three-year-old daughter Trishvi, Uttarakashi''s Disaster Management Officer Devendra Patwal said, adding that all the bodies have been recovered.
One person is reported to be missing after the cloudburst in the neighbouring Kankrari village. A search operation is underway to find him, he said.
Day 1 of the Monsoon session of the parliament kicked-off on a stormy note as Prime Minister Narendra Modi introduced new Cabinet ministers in the Lok Sabha today. A series of meetings were held on Sunday ahead of the session, indicating the seriousness with which, both the government and Opposition parties will approach the session. The Opposition has said future outbreaks of Covid-19 will be discussed, along with gaps in government strategy that led to the second wave. Loss of livelihood, businesses closing down, and the steps the government has taken to prevent this in the form of various measures, will also be flagged.
Meanwhile, torrential rains wreaked havoc in Mumbai yesterday leaving 33 dead and six others injured in five separate incidents of landslides, electrocutions and a house collapse. The downpour began in the early hours of Sunday and continued through the day. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted moderate to severe thunderstorms with lightning at isolated places over Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and east Rajasthan during the next 24 hours, and warned of casualties to people and animals staying outdoors.
