Gurugram restricts entry of heavy commercial vehicles for Republic Day celebrations

The traffic police will bar heavy commercial vehicles from entering the city between 9.00 pm on Sunday and 1.30 pm on Monday and from 9.00 pm on Wednesday to 1.30 pm on Thursday in view of Republic Day celebrations.
 
Heavy vehicles coming from Jaipur should use the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal Expressway, the police advisory said.
 
"For security and smooth traffic operation, in case of traffic jam at Panchgaon Chowk, Manesar Chowk, Sirhaul Border and Kapriwas Chowk alternative routes have been determined from Bilaspur, KMP, Farukhnagar, Himgiri Chowk, Hero Honda Chowk, Shankar Chowk, IFFCO Chowk, Signature Tower Chowk, Udyog Vihar and Kherki Daula Toll Plaza.

Tanishq enters American market; first store inaugurated by Senator Robert Menendez

Tanishq, India's leading jewelry retail brand from the house of Tata, has entered the American market and its first store, in New Jersey's Little India, was inaugurated by Senator Robert Menendez this week.

"Oak Tree road is the jewelry capital of New Jersey," Menendez, Chairman of the powerful Foreign Relations Committee, told a gathering of jewelers, local businessmen and Indian Americans.

While Oak Tree Road has more than a dozen jewelry stores, mostly owned by Indian Americans, Menendez said the arrival of Tanishq at this popular Indian shopping destination is significant and different from others.

India logs 145 new Covid cases, active cases dip to 1,946 

India logged 145 new coronavirus infections, while the active cases dipped to 1,946, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Friday.

The Covid case tally was recorded at 44,681,650.

The death toll stands at 530,728, the data updated at 8 am stated.

The daily positivity was recorded at 0.08 per cent while the weekly positivity was pegged at 0.08 per cent.

The active cases now comprise 0.01 per cent of the total infections, while the national Covid-19 recovery rate increased to 98.81 per cent, the ministry said.

A decrease of 16 cases has been recorded in the active COVID-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours.

Delhi LG V K Saxena writes to Kejriwal; accuses him of making 'misleading, derogatory remarks' 

In the ongoing power tussle involving two constitutional functionaries of Delhi, L-G V K Saxena on Friday wrote to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal accusing him of making "misleading and derogatory remarks" and resorting to a "low level of discourse".

He also accused Kejriwal of adopting "political posturing" during his march to Raj Niwas on January 16 along with his deputy Manish Sisodia and AAP MLAs.

Snowfall, rain lash Joshimath

Snowfall and rain lashed subsidence-hit Joshimath on Friday, intensifying the cold and adding to the woes of people living in temporary relief camps.

Rains lashed Joshimath overnight and were followed by a spell of snowfall on Friday morning, officials said.

Apart from Joshimath located at around 6,000 feet, many famous locations in the higher altitudes of Chamoli district, including Badrinath, Hemkund Sahib, Nanda Devi National Park and the Valley of Flowers, also received snowfall, officials said.

Only dialogue with Pakistan can end terrorism in J&K, says Farooq Abdullah 

Terrorism is alive in Jammu and Kashmir and can only be ended by holding dialogue with Pakistan, National Conference president Farooq Abdullah has said, lashing out at the BJP for "spreading hatred" which is a danger to the integrity of the country.

He also said the Kashmiri Pandits need a balm on their wounds which is possible when love replaces hatred.

"I am going to give you in writing with my blood that terrorism is alive and it will not end till you start talking to Pakistan. When you can talk to China which has entered our borders and land 16 times, why are you shying away from talks with Pakistan," Abdullah, a former chief minister, told reporters here on Thursday.

UK PM Rishi Sunak apologises for removing car seat belt

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has apologised for a “brief error of judgment” in removing his seat belt to film a social media video while driving to a destination in north-west England.

Sunak's Downing Street spokesperson on Thursday said he had only briefly removed his seat belt and admits he made a mistake.

In the UK, passengers caught failing to wear a seatbelt while in a car, unless covered by a valid medical exemption, can be given an on-the-spot fine of 100 pounds, increasing to 500 pounds if the case goes to court.

Minimum temperature settles above normal in city 

The national capital is likely to witness a partly cloudy sky on Friday with the maximum temperature expected to settle at 22 degrees Celsius, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

The minimum temperature was recorded three degrees above normal at 10.6 degrees Celsius.

Humidity was recorded at 83 percent at 8:30 am, the IMD noted.

US announces another $2.5 billion military aid package for Ukraine

he United States has announced another military assistance package of $2.5 billion for Ukraine to fight against Russian aggression, taking the total US military assistance to $27.5 billion.

"This assistance package will provide Ukraine with hundreds of additional armoured vehicles, including Stryker armoured personnel carriers, Bradley infantry fighting vehicles, Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected vehicles, and High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled vehicles," Secretary of State Antony Blinken announced Thursday.

CIA director visits Kyiv, meets with Ukraine's Zelenskyy

CIA Director William Burns visited Kyiv last week to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, a US official has said, in the latest example of high-level contacts between the US and Ukraine.

The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity Thursday to discuss the director's classified schedule, declined to disclose what Burns and Zelenskyy discussed. Burns also met with Ukrainian intelligence officials. The CIA director has briefed Zelenskyy repeatedly before and since Russia launched its invasion of Ukraine last February, passing on US intelligence findings about Moscow's war plans and intentions.

Aviation regulator DGCA has imposed a fine of Rs 30 lakh on Air India and suspended the License of pilot-in-command for three months in connection with the Air India urination case.

The regulator has also imposed a penalty of Rs 3 lakh on Director-in-flight services of Air India for failing to discharge her duties on November 26, 2022.
