Delhi govt sent written warnings to Uber, Ola for non-compliance against bike taxis services

New Delhi city authorities have warned Uber and its rival Ola for allegedly violating local transport rules by providing two-wheeler bike taxis, a senior government official told Reuters.
 
The transport department of India's capital on Feb 19, issued newspaper ads asking digital companies to "immediately stop" allowing personal bike taxis that offer commercial, ride-hailing services on their apps as they violated city rules.
 
As of Tuesday, bike taxis continue to be available for booking on Uber and Ola apps in New Delhi.
 
Delhi is a key market for ride-hailing firms. Uber says in 2022, more than 1.9 million trips took place to and from metro rail stations in Delhi on Uber Moto, its bike taxi service.

No hung assembly, NDA will form govt in all three northeastern states: Himanta Biswa Sarma

Asserting there will not be hung assembly in either Tripura, Nagaland or Meghalaya, as predicted in some exit polls, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday said the NDA will form the government with an absolute majority in all the three northeastern states.

Sarma, the NEDA convenor, said no NDA (National Democratic Alliance) partner will go into any alliance with either Congress or the Trinamool Congress.

"There will be no hung assembly. The NDA will form the government in all the three states," he told reporters here.

Meta creating top-level product team to build AI tools: Mark Zuckerberg

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has announced that the company is creating a new "top-level" product team which will be "focused" on generative artificial intelligence (AI).

On Monday, Zuckerberg posted on Facebook, "We're creating a new top-level product group at Meta focused on generative AI to turbocharge our work in this area."

"We're starting by pulling together a lot of the teams working on generative AI across the company into one group focused on building delightful experiences around this technology into all of our different products."

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said that people see the government as a catalyst for new opportunities and not as an obstacle.

Modi made the remark while addressing a post-budget webinar on 'Ease of Living using Technology'.

"Today people do not see the government as an obstacle; rather, people see our government as a catalyst for new opportunities. Certainly, technology has played a big role in this. Today the positive effect of the policies and decisions of the government is visible where it is needed the most," the Prime Minister said, adding that "the lack of trust between the government and the people is the result of a mindset of slavery".

Court orders jail for 2 Maiden Pharma executives for exporting substandard drugs

An Indian court has sentenced two pharmaceutical company executives to two-and-half years in jail for exporting substandard drugs to Vietnam a decade ago, months after the WHO linked their cough syrups to the deaths of children in Gambia.
 
India suspended production at Maiden Pharmaceuticals in October last year for violations of manufacturing standards after the World Health Organization said four of its cough syrups may have killed dozens of children in Gambia.
 
The company has denied its drugs were at fault for the deaths in Gambia and tests by an Indian government laboratory found there were no toxins in them.

Income-Tax Dept conducts searches at real estate firms in Hyderabad

The Income Tax (I-T) Department on Tuesday conducted searches at the offices of various real estate firms in Hyderabad for alleged tax evasion.

About 20 teams of I-T officials were conducting the simultaneous searches at the offices of Wonder City, Royal City and other companies.

The officials were also checking records of various transactions at the office of Googee real estate firm in Dilsukhnagar.

PM Modi's younger brother Prahlad hospitalised in Chennai: Report

Prime Minister Narendra Modi's younger brother Prahlad Modi has been admitted at a private hospital in Chennai due to a kidney ailment, sources said.

Without providing further details, the sources at the hospital in Ayanambakkam told IANS that his condition is stable.

Prahlad Modi, who is also the Vice President of All India Fair Price Shop Dealers Federation, is on a spiritual tour with his family and had visited the Madurai Meenakshi temple, Rameswaram temple and Kanniyakumari Devi temple.

SC to hear Punjab govt plea against guv's refusal to summon Budget session

The Supreme Court agreed to hear on Tuesday a plea of the Punjab government against the Governor's "refusal" to summon the Budget session scheduled for March 3.

A bench of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and Justice PS Narasimha said it will take up the Punjab government's plea at 3:50 pm after a five-judge Constitution bench hearing on the Maharashtra Shiv Sena political crisis.

Senior advocate AM Singhvi, appearing for the Punjab government, requested for urgent hearing of the plea on Tuesday itself.

India reports 169 Covid-19 cases, one death; active tally rises to 2,257

India logged 169 new coronavirus infections, while the active cases increased to 2,257, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Tuesday.

The death toll stands at 5,30,771 with one death reconciled by Kerala, the data updated at 8 am stated.

The virus tally was recorded at 4.46 crore (4,46,86,371).

All options open to form stable govt: Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma after exit polls

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma is likely to form a post-poll alliance, indicated exit polls conducted by a number of media houses.

The exit polls further pointed out that the northeastern state would have a hung house, with Sangma's National People's Party (NPP) emerging as the single-largest party.

Following this, Conrad Sangma said that he would keep all options to form a stable government.

Govt to release second advance estimate of GDP for 2022-23 today

Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation will release the second advance estimate of the Gross Domestic Product for 2022-23 along with December quarter data on Tuesday evening.

The ministry will also release the revised estimate of economic growth for 2021-22 which was estimated at 8.7 per cent in May last year.

As per the first advance estimates released last month, the GDP growth was pegged at 7 per cent for 2022-23.
