Russian attacks on Ukraine infrastructure are war crimes - EU's von der Leyen
Russia's missile and drone attacks on power stations and other infrastructure in Ukraine are "acts of pure terror" that amount to war crimes, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said on Wednesday.
"Yesterday we saw again Russia's targeted attacks against civilian infrastructure. This is marking another chapter in an already very cruel war. The international order is very clear.
These are war crimes," von der Leyen said in a speech to lawmakers in the European Parliament.

Shanghai to build a 3,250-bed Covid facility near city centre
Shanghai will build an isolation facility that can house thousands of people near the center of the city, adding to signs China is unlikely to shift away from Covid Zero any time soon despite the policy’s heavy cost.
The facility will be constructed on an area covering about 35 acres on Fuxing island, which lies to the east of Shanghai’s business district, and will have 3,250 beds when it is completed. The 1.38 billion yuan ($191 million) project was awarded to state-owned China Communications Construction Co., according to a bidding document published on a government tendering platform.
An official for the Shanghai government couldn’t immediately comment on the facility.

Cong poll: Tharoor's team demands that all votes from UP be deemed invalid
Congress presidential poll candidate Shashi Tharoor's team has written to the party's chief election authority, flagging "extremely serious irregularities" in the conduct of the election in Uttar Pradesh and demanded that all votes from the state be deemed invalid, sources said.
Tharoor's campaign team has also raised "serious issues" in the conduct of the election in Punjab and Telangana.
In his letter to Central Election Authority chairman Madhusudan Mistry, Tharoor's chief election agent Salman Soz has said the facts are "damning" and the election process in Uttar Pradesh is "devoid of credibility and integrity", they said.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres paid tributes to the victims of the 26/11 terror attacks at the Taj Mahal Palace hotel in Mumbai and said that terror is an absolute "evil" and no reason, pretext or grievance can justify the act of terrorism.
"Terror is absolute evil. There are no reasons, no pretext, no causes, and no grievances that can justify terrorism. terrorism is absolute evil. It has no room in today's world," Guterres said while addressing the presser at Taj Hotel.
UN Chief, who came to India on Wednesday, visited the Taj Hotel on Wednesday and laid a wreath in honor of all those who sacrificed their lives in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack.

UK Home Secy, MPs raise pitch for FTA at Diwali event

New airbase coming up in Gujarat to emerge as effective centre for country's security: PM Modi at DefExpo 2022
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday laid the foundation stone of a new airbase coming up in north Gujarat near India-Pakistan border and said it will emerge as an effective centre for the country's security.
Speaking after inaugurating the Defence Expo 2022 in Gujarat capital Gandhinagar, Modi also said that defence forces will release a list of 101 more items that cannot be imported.
With this 411 defence-related goods can only be procured locally, he said.

SC shifts Constitution bench hearing on Delhi-Centre row over services to Nov 24
The Supreme Court on Wednesday postponed the hearing of its five-judge Constitution bench on the legal issue concerning the scope of legislative and executive powers of the Centre and Delhi government over control of services in the national capital.
A bench of Justices DY Chandrachud and Hima Kohli shifted the hearing on the request of Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the Centre, and said that he will be unavailable on November 9 due to an official trip abroad.
The bench then posted the matter for further hearing on November 24.

Over 14.8 mn US kids infected with Covid
Over 14.8 million children in the US have tested positive for Covid-19 since the onset of the pandemic in early 2020, according to the latest report by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and the Children's Hospital Association.
Nearly 163,000 of these cases have been added in the past four weeks, Xinhua news agency quoted the report as saying on Tuesday.
For the week ending October 13, nearly 28,000 child Covid-19 cases were reported, a decrease from the previous week.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday will embark on a visit to Gujarat where he will inaugurate the DefExpo22 and also lay the foundation stone of projects worth around Rs 15,670 crore. The counting of the votes cast on Monday will begin at 10 am on Wednesday at the AICC headquarters here. All sealed ballot boxes from the 68 polling booths set up across the country have been brought here and kept in a "strong room" at the party office. While Kharge is considered the firm favourite with his perceived proximity to the Gandhis and a large number of senior leaders backing him, Tharoor has pitched himself as the candidate of change.
