Global gold demand rises 28 pc to 1,181.5 tonnes in September quarter: WGC
Retail investment demand for gold bars and coins as well as central bank purchases pushed the global gold demand by 28 per cent to 1,181.5 tonnes in the September quarter, according to the World Gold Council report.
The total global demand stood at 921.9 tonnes during the July-September quarter of 2021, the World Gold Council's 'Gold Demand Trends Q3 2022' showed on Tuesday.

Morbi bridge collapse: SC to hear plea on Nov 14 for judicial probe
The Supreme Court on Tuesday agreed to hear on November 14 a PIL seeking direction to appoint a judicial commission under the supervision of the retired top court judge to initiate a probe on the Morbi Bridge collapse incident.
A bench of Chief Justice of India UU Lalit and Justice Bela M Trivedi posted the matter for hearing on November 14 after the advocate who filed the petition mentioned it for urgent hearing.
"You are very quick. What are your prayers," the CJI asked. To this Advocate Vishal Tiwari who filed the plea replied, "I am seeking a judicial enquiry commission".

Hiring in India IT sector slows down 18% in Oct: Report
Hiring in the Indian IT sector slowed down by 18 per cent in the month of October compared to last year, a report showed on Tuesday.
With the IT sector showing a decline, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Pune showed a decline in hiring activity, according to the Naukri JobSpeak index.
Apart from IT, other sectors that recorded a notable decline in hiring sentiments included telecom and healthcare.

40% of Indians defrauded while shopping online during festive season
Around 40 per cent of Indians surveyed have been defrauded when shopping online during festive season, finds a study.
The study was conducted by The Harris Poll on behalf of Norton, a global leader in Cyber safety, which released the Indian findings that explored attitudes toward cyber security and online shopping during the festive season.
According to the findings, two-third of Indian adults surveyed were concerned about their personal details being compromised (78 per cent), being defrauded by a third-party retailer (77 per cent), buying or receiving a refurbished device as a gift (72 per cent), and a device they receive as a gift being hacked (69 per cent).

SC's no to PIL for replacing party symbols on EVMs with age, educational qualification of candidates
The Supreme Court on Tuesday refused to entertain a PIL seeking a direction to the Election Commission to remove party symbols from ballots and electronic voting machines (EVMs) and put age, educational qualification and photograph of candidates instead.
A bench comprising Chief Justice Uday Umesh Lalit and Justice Bela M Trivedi said that a representation may be made by petitioner lawyer Ashwini Upadhyay to the poll panel or other authorities which may, in turn, consider it.
Besides seeking removal of party symbols from ballots and the EVMs, the plea said such a move will help electors vote and support intelligent, diligent and honest candidates and "control the dictatorship of political party bosses in ticket distribution".

Pak PM Shehbaz Sharif to visit China on Tuesday; to greet President Xi Jinping
Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will embark on a two-day official visit to China on Tuesday during which he will meet the top Chinese leadership, including President Xi Jinping, for a series of meetings aimed at boosting business and strategic all-weather ties.
Sharif is visiting China at the invitation of his Chinese counterpart Li Keqiang.
Radio Pakistan reported that he will be accompanied by a high-level delegation and meet President Xi and hold delegation-level talks with Premier Li.

Delhi's air quality in severe category; farm fires rage in Punjab
The layer of smog lingering over Delhi thickened on Tuesday, lowering visibility and smudging landmarks from view, as the air quality turned 'severe' amid calmer winds and raging farm fires in Punjab.
NASA's satellite images showed a dense cluster of red dots denoting farm fires in Punjab and parts of Haryana, and a layer of smoke blanketing huge swathes of the Indo-Gangetic plains from east Pakistan to east Uttar Pradesh.
Delhi's air quality index (AQI) stood at 429 at 10 am on Tuesday, worsening from 352 at 4 pm on Monday. An AQI above 400 is considered "severe" and can affect healthy people and seriously impact those with existing illnesses.

Rajasthan: PM Modi declares Mangarh Dham national monument, pays tributes to tribals killed by British
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday paid tributes to the tribals who were massacred by the British army in 1913 in Mangarh in Rajasthan.
Modi, who will address a gathering of Bhil adivasis and members of other tribes at the Mangarh Dham in Banswara district, has also declared the memorial a national monument.
At the event, the prime minister shared the dais with Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat chief ministers Ashok Gehlot, Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Bhupendra Patel.

Twitter bans over 52,000 accounts for promoting child sexual exploitation, allied content
Twitter banned 52,141 accounts in India for promoting child sexual exploitation, non-consensual nudity and allied content between August 26 and September 25.
The micro-blogging platform, now owned by Elon Musk, also took down 1,982 accounts for promoting terrorism on its platform in the country.
Twitter, in its monthly report in compliance with the new IT Rules, 2021, said that it received 157 complaints from users in India in the same time-frame through its grievance redressal mechanisms, and took action on 129 of those URLS.
The Prime Minister met those who were involved in rescue and relief operations when they mishap-struck Morbi. The search and rescue operation is underway in the Machchhu river.
Death toll in the incident stands at 135 so far.
Jamshed J Irani, Steel Man of India passes away at 85
Jamshed J Irani, known as the steel man of India, died in Jamshedpur late Monday night, Tata Steel said. He was 85.
Irani was associated with Tata Steel for over four decades. He retired from the board of Tata Steel in June 2011, leaving behind a legacy of 43 years, which won him and the Company international acclaim in various fields.
Russia warns it will not allow ships with Ukraine grain without consent
Russia's UN ambassador on Monday accused Ukraine of using the Black Sea shipping corridor to get grain to world markets for military and sabotage purposes against its fleet, saying this is why it suspended implementation of the deal and warning that it will not allow the unimpeded passage of vessels without its consent which is currently taking place.
