Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday asserted that if India is a bright spot for the world, then it is Uttar Pradesh which is driving the country's growth.
"Today UP has become a hope. If India is a bright spot for the world, then it is UP, which is driving the growth of India.
"Within 5-6 years, UP has established a new identity for itself. Now, UP is being identified by good governance. Now, UP is being identified by better law and order, peace and stability. Now, wealth creators here will get new opportunities," Modi said after inaugurating the "Uttar Pradesh Global Investors Summit, 2023".

The Delhi High Court Friday allowed urgent listing of a plea by the city police challenging a trial court's order discharging 11 people, including student activists Sharjeel Imam and Asif Iqbal Tanha, in the 2019 Jamia Nagar violence case.
The plea was mentioned by Solicitor General Tushar Mehta before a bench of Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma and Justice Subramonium Prasad which allowed it to be listed for hearing on February 13.
The law officer said the court registry has raised certain objections in the petition.

Around 1,333 multi-national companies (MNCs) have shut down in the country but more than 4,900 new ones have come up opening new avenues and job opportunities, Parliament was informed on Friday.
Responding during Question Hour in the Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Som Parkash said it is normal to see some MNCs get closed and some new to come up.
A total of 1,333 MNCs have been closed down in the country, out of which 313 were foreign-based and 1,017 were their subsidiaries, he said.

Total 17 persons suffered injuries when a passenger bus turned turtle and skidded off the road in Jammu and Kashmir's Udhampur district on Friday, officials said.
The accident took place at the Gallawan-Panchari area of the district.
The bus was on its way to Khorgali from Udhampur, they said.
All those injured have been shifted to a hospital.

Aditya Birla Group on Friday committed Rs 25,000 crore investment across its various businesses in Uttar Pradesh.
Speaking at Global Investors Summit here, Kumar Mangalam Birla said the investment would go into various businesses like cement, metals, chemicals, financial services and renewable energy.
The Mumbai-based group's seven businesses have a significant presence in Uttar Pradesh, anchored by over 30,000 employees with an overall investment of Rs 40,000 crore, he noted.

The Congress and some other opposition MPs in Rajya Sabha staged a walkout on Friday after Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge was not allowed to speak in the House.
Kharge wanted to raise the issue of some of his observations being expunged by the chair, but he was not allowed on the plea that he cannot read the same remarks which have already been expunged.
Opposition members protested in support of the Leader of Opposition who wanted to raise his point, but the chair did not accede to their demand.

As many as 170 passengers of an Air India Express flight to Dubai had a tough time at the airport here as the flight was delayed by 13 hours due to a technical snag.
The flight, which was scheduled to take off for Dubai at 3 pm on Thursday, finally left at 4 am on Friday.
In a statement, Tata Group-owned Air India Express said it provided assistance to some 50 passengers, who had special requirements, including the lounge facility.
However, the remaining 120 passengers were kept at the airport terminal building, an airline source said. A total of 170 passengers were booked for the flight.

Two high court chief justices were on Friday elevated to the Supreme Court, bringing the total strength of the apex court to its maximum of 34 judges.
"As per the provisions under the Constitution of India, Hon'ble President of India has appointed the following Chief Justices of High Courts as Judges of the Supreme Court. My best to them: Rajesh Bindal, Chief Justice, Allahabad HC and Aravind Kumar, Chief Justice, Gujarat HC," Law Minister Kiren Rijiju tweeted.

The US space agency has announced a science mission to Mars aboard Jeff Bezos-run Blue Origin's New Glenn space launch vehicle
NASA awarded 'Mars Science Mission Launch' to Blue Origin's New Glenn as part of the Escape and Plasma Acceleration and Dynamics Explorers (ESCAPADE) contract.
ESCAPADE is part of the NASA Small Innovative Missions for Planetary Exploration (SIMPLEx) programme. It is a dual spacecraft mission to study the magnetosphere of the Red Planet.

Regularisation of jobs of around 4,500 regular muster roll (RMR) employees of the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has been cleared by the Union Home Ministry, an official said.
In 2019, the NDMC had passed a proposal to regularise these jobs and the proposal was then sent to the Union Ministry.
CM Arvind Kejriwal thanked the Union Home Minister Amit Shah for the decision, saying "The lives of thousands of these people will change with a permanent job. The work of governments is to take care of its employees and the public. I am thankful to Union Home Minister Amit Shah for regularising the jobs of these employees."

The World Bank has announced providing USD 1.78 billion in assistance to Turkey to help with relief and recovery efforts after devastating earthquakes in Turkey and neighbouring Syria.
The death toll following the earthquakes that hit Turkey and Syria on Monday has risen to 21,051, CNN reported citing authorities. At least 78,124 people in Syria and Turkey were injured after the quakes, CNN cited the figures from the Turkish government, the White Helmets and Syrian state media.

A top American business advocacy group has said that it is working to support plans to promote a free, open, and prosperous Indo-Pacific region.
During an ongoing meeting with stakeholders of the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF), the US India Business Council (USIBC) also focused on building resilient supply chains for the biopharmaceutical sector as well as for critical minerals essential to the energy transition, a media release here said.
The framework is being hosted by the Indian Ministry of Commerce and Industry in Delhi from February 8 to 11.

ISRO on Friday tasted maiden success in the small satellite launch vehicle segment, with its SSLV D2 rocket injecting three satellites into an intended circular orbit, months after the maiden mission failed to bring in the desired results.
The satellites included ISRO's earth observation satellite EOS-07.
ISRO's first mission in 2023 and SSLV's sequel saw a strange coincidence--it was launched at 9.18 AM, the same time its predecessor lifted off from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre here on August 7, 2022 but could not deliver due to orbit anomaly and flight path deviation.

President Droupadi Murmu will arrive in Odisha, her home state, on Friday on a two-day visit to attend official functions.
After reaching Bhubaneswar at around 11.45 am, the President will attend the foundation day programme of Jnanaprabha Mission, a charitable organisation.
Later, she will be present at the convocation of Rama Devi Women's University, her alma mater. She completed her BA from the then college in 1979.

After sending two missives to Nobel laureate Amartya Sen alleging that he is occupying parts of land leased to his family in an unauthorised manner, Visva-Bharati university has said it wants to conduct a joint survey of the land along with the economist's side.
In a statement, the central university sought a suitable date and time from the economist for the exercise.
With reference to our earlier letters, this is to inform you that the university wants to survey/demarcate jointly the land mutated in your favour for the residual period of lease as per lease deal executed on October 27, 1943 vide resolution no 8 dated September 3, 2006 of the executive council of Visva Bharati and communicated to you on October 31, 2006, the letter said on Thursday.
The university said it will take two days to complete the survey which is needed to clear the air.

Most of the universities in Afghanistan are on the verge of closure as several face economic challenges after the Taliban's ban on education for females in the country.
According to the union representing public and private universities, several institutions have ceased operations as a result of economic difficulties. 35 universities will be shut down, according to Union officials, if the Islamic Emirate does not change its mind about women's education, TOLOnews reported.
"In a survey that we have done, 35 private universities due to economic challenges, cannot operate," said Mohammad Karim Nasiri, the media officer responsible for the union.
