Karnataka bandh live updates: Several pro-Kannada outfits have called for a bandh in the state today against the formation of the Maratha Development Authority.

Karnataka bandh live updates: The state wide bandh called by pro-Kannada groups in Karnataka on Saturday, opposing the government's decision to create a corporation for Maratha community here has had no major impact on normal life so far, other than sporadic protests and demonstrations by burning effigies.

Auto rickshaws, cabs, public transport buses and metro services are available as of now, also hotels and provision stores were open.

Though scarce, there is movement of vehicles on roads in various parts of the city and similar reports have come other parts of the state.

Activists of several Kannada organisations who are gathering near the city's Town Hall for staging demonstrations were detained and taken away by the police.

Protests have also been reported in Chamarajanagara, Bengaluru Rural, Gadag, Koppa, Hassan, Ramanagara, Chitradurga, Davangere, Bagalkote, Chikkamagaluru, Mandya among other districts so far.

Central team visiting Pondy on December 7 to assess cyclone damage

An inter-ministerial Central team will be on a visit to Puducherry on December 7 to assess the damage caused by cyclone and rains.

 

Speaking to reporters here on Saturday, territorial Chief Minister V Narayansamy said the teamwould visit the cyclone-ravaged areas and that he would brief it on the loss faced.

 

He said he had written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to grant the Union Territory an interim relief of Rs 100 crores to restore normalcy.

Trade deficit might widen as Covid dents exports: Experts

The overall trade deficit is likely to widen as rising coronavirus cases and subsequent lockdowns in key export markets dent India's merchandise exports, experts said.

 

The recently released provisional data showed that India's merchandise exports dropped by 9.07 per cent in November to $23.43 billion from $25.77 billion in November 2019.

 

"The slippage in exports growth signifies the near term impact of fresh restrictions in trading partners. The average merchandise trade deficit is likely to reach substantially higher levels in H2FY21 as compared to Q2FY21," said Aditi Nayar, Principal Economist, ICRA.

 

Among commodities and products, iron ore, rice and pharmaceuticals continued to display healthy uptick in YoY shipments, whereas leather, textiles and engineering goods continued to show contraction.

Air quality 'severe' in Ghaziabad, Noida, 'very poor' in Gurgaon, Faridabad

The air quality remained "severe" in Ghaziabad, Noida and Greater Noida for the second day, while it stayed in the "very poor" category in Faridabad and Gurgaon,according to a government agency data issued on Saturday.

 

Presence of pollutant PM 2.5 and PM 10 also remained high in the five immediate neighbours of Delhi, according to the air quality index (AQI) maintained by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).

 

According to the index, an AQI between zero and 50 is considered 'good', 51 and 100 'satisfactory', 101 and 200 'moderate', 201 and 300 'poor', 301 and 400 'very poor', and 401 and 500 'severe'.

Discoms supplied record 14,856 MW power in MP on Friday

A record 14,856 MW power was successfully supplied by electricity distribution companies in Madhya Pradesh on Friday, an official said.

 

The state faced a peak demand of 14,856 MW on Friday and the same was supplied by power companies operating in the state.

 

This was the highest-ever power supply in the history of the state, a Jabalpur-based public relations officer of MP Power Management Company said.

TRS may need support of others to retain GHMC mayor post

The ruling TRS in Telangana has emerged as the single largest party in the GHMC polls, but it may need the support of others to retain the Mayor's post, notwithstanding its strength of ex-officio members, who can participate in voting.

 

The results of 149 wards out of the total 150 were declared on Saturday (counting was stopped in one ward on Friday owing to a legal issue) and TRS is the single largest party after winning 55 seats.
