Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Ropax ferry services between Surat and Saurashtra in Gujarat, through video conferencing on Sunday. Chief Minister of Gujarat, Vijay Rupani also attended the event. This ferry service will reduce the distance between Surat and Saurashtra from 317 km (by road) to just 60 kilometres, informed Mansukh Mandaviya, Union Shipping Minister on Saturday.

Meanwhile, voting for third and final phase of the Bihar Assembly election 2020 was held on Saturday and the results will be announced on November 10.

The Central government has granted permission to the candidates of Combined Defence Services (CDS) exams, to travel by special suburban services over the Mumbai Suburban train network from today.

On political front, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Jagat Prakash Nadda has today called a meeting of party general secretaries. The issues that would be discussed in the meeting are not yet known.

Police install over 600 CCTV cameras in Ghaziabad

In a bid to check crime in the district, police have installed over 600 CCTV cameras, an official said on Sunday.

 

According to SSP Kalanidhi Naithani, police have installed 640 CCTV cameras at all crucial spots in the district.

 

He said police have installed 114 CCTV cameras in the GT Road Kotwali area; 89 in Loni town; 82 in Sihani Gate area; 70 in Sahibabad and 34 in Indira Puram among other places.

Astronauts head to launch site for SpaceX's 2nd crew flight

Four astronauts headed to Kennedy Space Center on Sunday for SpaceX's second crew launch, coming up next weekend.

 

For NASA, it marks the long-awaited start of regular crew rotations at the International Space Station, with private companies providing the lifts. There will be double the number of astronauts as the test flight earlier this year, and their mission will last a full six months.

 

The crew of three Americans and one Japanese are scheduled to rocket away Saturday night. It will be a speedy trip to the space station, a six-orbit express lasting under nine hours.

Post-demonetisation, corruption increased: Akhilesh Yadav

Taking a dig on four years of demonetisation, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Sunday said fake currency notes are still in circulation and corruption has increased.

 

In a Hindi tweet, Akhilesh Yadav said, "After four years of demonetisation, fake currency notes are still there. Corruption has increased. There is no 'hisaab' of black money. People have not got Rs 15 lakh in their accounts.

 

The tweet by the SP chief came hours after Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said the note ban by the Centre in 2016 helped reduce black money, increased tax compliance and ensured transparency.

Alex Trebek, long-running 'Jeopardy!' host, dies at 80

Jeopardy! host Alex Trebek died Sunday after battling pancreatic cancer for nearly two years. He was 80.

 

Trebek died at home early Sunday with family and friends surrounding him, Jeopardy! studio Sony said in a statement.

 

Trebek presided over the beloved quiz show for more than 30 years. He was a master of the format, engaging in friendly banter with contestants and appearing genuinely pleased when they answered correctly.

Amit Shah asks farmers in Ahmedabad to take up organic farming

Union Home Minister and Gandhinagar MP Amit Shah on Sunday directed officials to encourage farmers in Ahmedabad district of Gujarat to adopt crop rotation and take up organic farming.

 

Shah chaired a meeting of Ahmedabad's District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee via video conferencing, an official release said.

 

Many areas in Ahmedabad city and rural fall under the Gandhinagar constituency.

Now no need of affidavit form to claim unemployment benefit from ESIC

The Employees State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) has relaxed conditions for seeking claims for unemployment benefits, doing away with requirement to submit affidavit form by claimants.

 

Such claims through affidavit form are no longer required now under Atal Beemit Vyakti Kalyan Yojana (ABVKY) of the ESIC, a labour ministry statement said.

 

These claims will be submitted online along with scanned copies of required documents, it added.

 

The ESIC in its meeting held on August 20, 2020 had extended the scheme 'Atal Beemit Vyakti Kalyan Yojana' from July 1, 2020 to June 30, 2021.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday congratulated the people of the national capital for their active participation in the anti-dengue campaign resulting in zero dengue-related deaths.

 

In the last week of the government's 10 Hafte 10 Baje 10 Minute campaign', he said the participation and support of Delhiites against dengue have set an example by defeating the disease for the second year in a row.

 

According to a statement released by the office of the chief minister, the citizens of Delhi have successfully managed to bring dengue cases to 489 this year from 15,867 in 2015. Compared to 60 dengue-related deaths in 2015, there have been no dengue-related deaths this year.

Haryana govt forms SIT to probe hooch deaths

The Haryana government on Sunday formed a special investigation team to probe the recent incidents of deaths due to consumption of suspected spurious liquor in the state.
 

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by Additional Director General of Police (Narcotics) Shrikant Jadhav will submit its report within 15 days, Home Minister Anil Vij said in an official statement here.
